I mean, think about it! Tom Riddle and Severus Snape are half-bloods through their pure-blood mothers side, both attending Hogwarts in an era of war and pure-blood supremacy, and each with ambitions within a world who finds their existence utterly distasteful.

There is a kinship here I can’t get over. I’ve been reading over the books as one does, and I felt myself snagging onto Voldemort and Severus Snape’s interactions. It’s clear that Snape was the favored one, out of all of his followers. Narcissa Malfoy (A direct Black descendant) in all her proud upbringing had to beg this man because she thought he may CHANGE the Dark Lord’s mind for her son. Like, hello? Who in the world has that sort of liberty?

Highly intelligent and cunning besides, they have the skill set to survive both Muggle and Wizarding worlds by their own merit. Muggle London to Midlands, but still. I find them so deliciously fascinating, it’s giving dark academia with a dash of danger, and obsession. 

Tom Riddle, in my own opinion, was not a genius. Not like Severus Snape - what he did have was raw magical power, with the unfortunate self-destructive tendencies.

Severus would be desperate to be recognised, acknowledged, to be loved. While Tom would hunger for power, domination and control. Am I wrong to say this is the start of any disastrous relationship?

Just, Tom being used to getting his way twisting words and smiling and Severus knowing that the man is objectively handsome but being disgusted by the blatant attempts at "charming" him to gain something.

Severus just wants to brew and experiment with his potions while working on a little apothecary that this rich dude keeps coming to for one reason or another.

I've seen this in others fics (the part with Severus not being a DE, and working somewhere else, with Tom finding him there), but in them Severus falls for Tom's act. And I get that Severus is vulnerable and Tom is good at lying, but really, are you truly going to tell me that the boy who grew up poor, in a place that had definitely a good number of criminals, who throughout his school career was surely lied to in order to get him to do some work, or pranked; wouldn't be hypervigilant of any potential threat? Any possible deceit?

He became a DE because he had nowhere else to go (at least that's what I think), so I believe that, if he had something more stable, he would think things through when a strange opportunity and specially strange people, entered the picture.
