I read a lot of vampire books as a teenager in the era of Vampire Academy and Twilight, but the books I feel like really should have gotten more attention was The Morganville Vampires. It was far more unique than any of the other books on the shelf at the time.
The construction of the town itself was such a neat idea, the disease, the internal vampire politics, sticking them all in some weird psychic bubble in Texas. The Glass House feels like home in a way. I'm only on book 5 at the moment of the re-read and I never finished the series as a kid, but it holds up pretty well, even if I wipe the nostalgia off of my glasses.
