I am writing a paper for one of my classes on tomato soup, so I randomly thought I'd distract myself and give y'all some random information on tomatoes.
....so, here goes. Did you know:
as tomatoes grow from flowering plants and are receptacles for seeds, they are technically fruits, NOT vegetables
the word 'tomato' comes from the Aztec word 'tomatl', which (if I'm not mistaken) was their word for a green tomatillo plant
cooked tomatoes are actually better for you than raw tomatoes, since more beneficial chemicals are released during the cooking process
as of 2013, the heaviest tomato on record was 3.51 kilograms (over seven pounds; that's a hefty tomato!)
China is the largest worldwide producer of tomatoes, followed by the US, Turkey, India, and Egypt
tomato juice is the state drink of Ohio... My only question now is WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU MAKE YOUR STATE DRINK TOMATO JUICE??!?
That's it for now. I have to go back to writing this paper. I hope y'all haven't missed me too much, but school has just been a little hectic. I promise to try to update a little sooner next time!
