TOKE2: Wrap Up
Lookout - The End
(note: this turned into a super lengthy post, so buckle in!)
Itās taken me a little time to write this up after finishing the last episode, because I really needed to sort out in my own head how I felt about everything.Ā Let me first start by saying that I watched this show in dribs and drabs. I hadĀ planned to be very systematic about it and keep up in a linear fashion, but.. well... life. So really, after the first eight episodes, I was binge watching a couple of episodes at a time, and then leaving it aside for days on end, before repeating that whole process. Which mightĀ have had an impact on what Iām about to say, but personally I think it would be a very small impact, if at all.
To get to the crux of it: I think this show fell far far below itās potential. I ended up rating it a 7 on mydramalist, which puts it in the same category as shows like Goblin and Flower Boy Next Door, but also in the same category as shows like Warm and Cozy and The Bride of Habaek.Ā

Twenty Again (Episodes 5-8)
Halfway through and I am still enjoying this drama. While it does include a couple of tropes that I do find a little annoying at times, they are a part of most romantic comedy dramas. And if I am being honest, I love rom-coms.
Ā Beware, spoilers within.
The Other Kdrama Exchange: Round 2
Itās happening again. My goal this time to to not cry about the death of characters I really shouldnāt have cared about as much as I did (Iām looking at you Heartless City)(Iām still not over Hyun Sooās death)(though I did have to look up his name . . . )(So maybe I am over it).
This time around, with the new system, I got recommended Bubblegum, The Suspicious Housekeeper, and Unkind Women. I have already seen (and loved) Bubblegum, so that one was out. And then, the 24 episode count of Unkind Women as well as a premise that doesnāt really grab me took it out of the running.
I am cautiously optimistic about The Suspicious Housekeeper though. I have always liked Choi Ji Woo, though Iām excited to see her in a role that seems to be very different than the stuff I have seen her in before. Also, Kim So Hyun is great, and there are some faces lower on the cast list that I recognize.
Now logistics. Iām changing up my style for this, because I am over it with the system I used before, because re-reading it is a little bit super hard to understand . . . at least for me. Which makes it likely to me that other people cannot necessarily follow it. So Iām implementing a new system.
There will still be a post for every 2 episodes, and then some special along the way ones that everyone in the exchange is doing. It puts me at a post every other day, which is exciting and also terrifying. Good luck to me. The format for the episodely stuff will be 2 topics per episode about whatever I feel like talking about. And anything funny anecdote wise, because Iām going for the silly stuff in a drama regardless of format.
See you in 2 days!

The Other K-Drama Exchange, Round 2 - Maids Edition
As insinuated above, the show Iām watching for the next month is Maids. I already knew this show was going to be quality, but Iād never gotten around to it until the TOKE2 drama exchange email recommended it to me. Spoilers will be given, for those who havenāt already seen it, so please take caution when clicking past the break~
The Other K-drama Exchange Round 2 - Signal
I saw the TOKE2 post on reddit funnily enough. This is the first time Iām participating in a kdrama exchange and I hoped this would introduce me to a drama out of my usual genre choice. And it did!Ā
Iāll be watching Signal, it is a drama I have heard a lot of good stuff about. I expect Iāll have to get used to the story in the first few episodes and then I think Iāll get sucked in to the story. I think itās going to be an interesting drama with a lot of mystery solving elements.Ā
Iām really curious about Kim Hye-Sooās acting. Iāve only seen her in Running Men ahahaha
The other kdrama exchange
Even though I most definitely don't have time for this, I've decided to participate in the other kdrama exchange, which focuses around well written women. The only drama on my list that I hadn't seen was Miss Korea, and after 1 episode I am... underwhelmed.
This drama wasn't on my radar, and I can see why. I thrive on romance and angst, and I'm sure this will be focused on the main woman, but I'm so far not seeing the qualities I personally find appealing in a drama.
That doesn't mean it's bad, I just don't see a good supporting cast or a good love story developing, which isn't really my jam.
I know this is supposed to take place in 1997, but that doesn't mean it also needs drama conventions from the 90s. I don't like overly cartoonish villains and I don't like the female objectification that dominated this episode. This feels like a drama from 2005, not 2014.
I'm trying to stay open minded, and I don't want to oftend whoever recced this, but I have very little free time, and I'm not really looking forward to spending 20 hours of it on this show if it's as lackluster as this first episode.
