Enjoy the flavors of traditional Chinese cuisine with this simple and satisfying vegan braised tofu dish. Tender cubes of tofu are cooked in a savory and slightly sweet sauce, infused with garlic, ginger, and green onions. Serve over steamed rice for a complete and nutritious meal.
Ingredients: 1 block firm tofu, pressed and cut into cubes. 2 tablespoons soy sauce. 1 tablespoon rice vinegar. 1 tablespoon sesame oil. 1 tablespoon maple syrup. 1 tablespoon cornstarch. 1 cup vegetable broth. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 1 teaspoon grated ginger. 2 green onions, sliced. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil. 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for garnish. Cooked rice, for serving.
Instructions: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, maple syrup, cornstarch, and vegetable broth to make the sauce. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and sliced green onions. Cook until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add tofu cubes to the skillet and cook until lightly browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Pour the sauce over the tofu in the skillet. Stir gently to coat the tofu evenly with the sauce. Cover and simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and tofu is heated through. Serve the braised tofu over cooked rice, garnished with sesame seeds and additional sliced green onions if desired.
