FRANCIS: How could you do it?! Do you deny helping Conde behind my back?

MARY: No.

FRANCIS: Mary, I.... Where is he now?

MARY: Now? What do you mean? He was captured by General Renaude's men.

FRANCIS: He was rescued.

MARY: I didn't know.

FRANCIS:  Do you realize that by helping Conde escape, Elizabeth could have a foothold in France? 

MARY: And she could not. These are all abstract future possibilities. A man's life was at stake.

FRANCIS: No. A lot of lives. Conde's army is loyal to him personally. If he becomes king consort of England, we will essentially have an enemy army on our soil. Mary, this is the most dangerous thing you have ever done!!!

MARY: Married? To Elizabeth? It’s not true.

FRANCIS: It is. Or was, for however long their marriage may have lasted. No one knows if the arson and murders undid their union, or if Conde fled France king consort of England.

MARY: Louis was approached by Elizabeth's envoy some weeks ago. He told me so himself.

FRANCIS: You knew about this? That Conde was courting England? Our greatest enemy... Your greatest enemy?!?

MARY: He swore to me that he would reject her proposal.

FRANCIS: And you believed him.

MARY: If he did this, it's only because he felt he had no other choice. I abandoned him.

FRANCIS: I sent troops to Scotland for you... to honor your needs, your nation's needs. And still, you choose to lie to me!

FRANCIS: You heard the rumors about Conde.

MARY: He had no part of the attack.

FRANCIS: The nobles are already calling for his head. Now that the children are safe, I'll summon him for questioning.

MARY: Those men were planted there to implicate him. I know you are angry with me, and you have every right to be. But don't let that cloud your judgment. Conde is innocent!

FRANCIS: You cannot know that. Two boys were killed in the monastery. Now, I swore that I would protect you being with Conde, but I will not turn a blind eye to evidence of his involvement.
