"I know what I can do to make this a better place."
"What is your opinion on the tension and fighting in New York City?"
"It all boils down to the Peace Treaty of UES signed off in 2011. No one shares well and power is distributed unequally. There will be tension in any environment so long as humans fall prey to their own flaws. People need to revisit why they made a Treaty in the first place and stick to their promises. If not, not let bloodshed be the first call to action as an immediate remedy for a broken rule."

"What do you mean? Ever since coming to New York, they're all I've never known."
"What is your opinion on the tension and fighting in New York City?"
"Bullshit. I hate fighting and I hate that violence seems to be the only way people listen. "
"Do you see your loyalty wavering in the future? Why?"
"How am I supposed to know that? The only way I see that happening is if what I thought was true turns out to be a lie."
For what are you fighting for?
"Look. I...I don't know what this really means. But to me it means something. ...it's family. Mine is torn in all directions. But there's one thing I've learned and that's that the strength of family is beyond any power imaginable."
"I'm not loyal to either. The Elites and The Underdogs are tearing this city apart but they don't see what they are doing to the people who aren't involved. Who had nothing to do in their war. Why must the innocent play for the crimes of the guilty?"
What is your opinion on the tension and fighting in New York City?
"My opinion? My opinion is that they should stop. What is anybody really gaining from killing anyone? Whoever you're killing has a family. Someone who loves them. Why would you take that away from them? What did they ever so to you?"
Do you see your loyalty wavering in the future? Why?
"No, I don't. My loyalty is to the people of this city. The innocents, the ones who didn't choose to fight but have no choice. By the people, for the people, of the people; right?"
For what are you fighting for? Strictly for fun, money, or family?
"I am fighting for those who don't have anyone to fight for them."
If Neutral, are you concerned for your safety in New York City at this time, and if so, who do you think is the biggest threat?
"I'm a detective. There's nothing as 'safe' in my dictionary. Honestly, both of them are. It's a blood bath. Both sides are willing to kill whoever they need to, meanwhile innocent people are dying, people who didn't sign up for this."
As I walk away, I hear you say
"Daddy, love you more"
Michael Roth.
The picture next to the name was of her father, but the information provided about him was not something she had ever thought about. Stock broker? New York? NO! He was a pharmacist. It had been a blow to find out he was cheating on her mother, but now to find out he had a whole other occupation? The more Erica read about the man she thought she had known for the latter part of her life, the more she began to return to feel. The numbing sensation of her world was fading fast, and feeling was taking over. And she didn’t want to feel. She shouldn’t care. Her mother didn’t do anything about it. Her mother let her father lead this double life. Erica was not a concern in this equation. She just had to play the part of good girl in Dad’s “normal” life. All she knew was that right now she couldn't be his little girl. From now on, there was never going to be that bond again. She resented ever waiting up for him at night and she hated herself for being a pawn in this joke of a life between her father and her mother.
Bile rose up in her throat and she ran for the bathroom. The bile was made up of all the things she knew now she had to press down. She could never throw them up. These words were sacred and she couldn’t say them. So the toilet was not her destination. Instead, Erica sank back into the tub. She stripped off her shirt and pants and lay bare in her bra and underwear. She picked up the razor blade again. Toying with it between her fingers. Amazed at how quickly her emotions could return to her, she desired the rapid outlet she had discovered half an hour ago. This time, as she rested her head against the tub to relax, a tear dripped down her chin to her chest, another traveled the side of her face and wet her ear. She was crying, she was bleeding, and for the first time in her life, she wished she were dying.
"And I am short on words knowing what's occurred..."
After a doctor's visit last week that left Jackie a little confused, he was called back in for one final appointment. Only this time, there would be no examining. There would be no more tests. It'd be a one on one conversation with Dr. Gordon. He would explain to Jackie exactly what was going on with his body.
Jackie had been sitting there not really listening to what Dr. Gordon had been saying for the last forty five minutes. There were bits and pieces that he'd heard. Words and phrases like: Stage 1. We caught it early. Time. Hodgkin's lymphoma. Honestly, they didn't have that great of an affect on him. Not really. Not yet, at least. He was just so inexplicably confused. Were those really his test results? He was only eighteen. This didn't happen to eighteen year old's. This kind of thing didn't happen to Jackie.
"Mr. Carver?" The doctor asked, leaning forward slightly across his desk before snapping his fingers in front of Jackie's face to grasp his attention.
"Yep?" Jackie responded, jumping slightly at the sound of the doctor's voice.
"We were talking about treatment options... it'd be best if you started as soon as possible. There are several oncologists that I recommend--I'll write them down," he said, pulling out a pen and a notepad.
"What if I decide to... you know, not get all the treatment and therapy stuff? How long would I have?"
"It would all just depend, Mr. Carver. The cancer looks aggressive. It'll spread quickly. I suggest gathering close family or friends to discuss treatment options."
Jackie hadn't even thought about his dad.
Or Ollie.
How would he face them?
Jackie stood, nodded at the doctor, and left without taking any information he might've needed off of his desk. Walking past the halls in a hurry until he found a bathroom, Jackie locked himself inside. Unable to look at himself in the mirror out of fear of what he might see, his breaths shortened. Jackie reached for the inhaler in his pocket, but he knew it'd be no use.

I don't know why all the trees change in the fall I know you're not scared of anything at all Don't know if Snow White's house is near or far away But I know I had the best day With you today
Waddling past the trees as fast as she possibly could to keep up with her long legged father, Macey pounced the second that he stopped. Wrapping an arm around one of his legs and using the other to motion that she wanted up, her father bent down and swooped her up in one arm. "Nap time, Macey," he told her. Instead of arguing like any normal four year old would, she simply nodded and rested her head on his chest.
One second, she was awake, and the next, she was laying next to her daddy upstairs. The house was quiet, which meant that her mother and Andrew were out running errands. At the time, Macey was too young to understand and actually appreciate moments like those with her father. Little did she know that they would be few and far in between. "Today was the bestest day ever, daddy!" She exclaimed, sitting up slightly. "I liked the goats," she told him, bouncing up and down on the bed.
"Macey Lauren, what do you like the most about yourself?" His question threw her off guard, and she wasn't even sure how to answer. She was only four after all. "Uummm..." she trailed off, scratching the top of her head. "I like my heart!"
"Why?"
"Because Jesus is in my heart. And because you and mama and Andrew are there too!"
Her father pulled Macey towards him and wrapped both arms around her. "Macey Lauren, I've been waiting for you for a long time."
At the time, Macey wasn't quite sure what he meant by that. She just knew that he'd said it with tears in his eyes. "Daddy, don't cry because I'm here now. See?"
It became evident over the years that, while Macey loved her mother with all of her heart, she would always be a daddy's girl.
