Humans are Weird: the guidebook: Sunburns
Okay, so this isn’t going to be posted like a book, I’m just going to put up random blippets here and there. You’re welcome to add to it, and any good ones I see I’ll add to my ongoing Word doc, and when it’s pretty complete I’ll post it chapter by chapter. Also note I’m not entirely sure about the sciencey stuff, so if you know what’s actually happening feel free to correct me. Anyway, here’s a blippet.
Under Care and Hygiene, Slilaxirth Edition
Sunburns. Humans can be burned by excessive UV rays if they do not have protection from them. Humans have found their own way to prevent these burns by applying “sunscreen”, a lotion applied directly to the skin that comes in different strengths and methods of application. Some prefer the type that is sprayed on, while others prefer the sort that is squeezed out of a tube and then rubbed on.
Some humans do not burn easily, while others do. Those that do not acquire what is called a “tan”. This is caused by the partial burning of their skin to the point where it darkens. Some humans like this “tan” and will aid the natural process by rubbing on “Suntan lotion” or “Suntan oil.” It is usually females who will apply the suntan oil, although it is not prohibited for males.Â
The application of sunscreen is common for any event where the human would be in the sun for long periods of time, but suntan oil is most common at beaches and pools, when the human (usually female) is wearing the least amount of clothing. It is acceptable for humans to wear nothing more than triangles of cloth covering the reproductive organs, (and for females, the breasts) Some have even simply worn narrow straps to cover key places.
Note: Rubbing on sunscreen or suntan oil is a form of Human bonding. Most will only let a friend assist in the application, although some human females use it as a form of flirtation to attract a male they are interested in.
Note: If humans ask you to pick who looks the best in their swimsuit, simple honesty may not be a good idea. It will almost certainly offend the ones who were not picked. Choose wisely, and consider what the most outlandish thing a female could decide is the reason for your choice. Pick the one that causes the least trouble for you. Even if your reasoning is that Human A is skinnier than Human B, do not admit this out loud. You may have to lie in this situation, but if you suspect the human will easily detect this, do not attempt. If humans do not ask you, do not offer your opinion.
Other humans who for various reasons do not expose themselves to the sun very often will not be comfortable in the sun, and will complain. These Humans are more comfortable in dark rooms full of technology, with the only sources of light being the displays. Please note that if one of these humans does come out into the sun, they will almost certainly burn. Keep a close watch on these humans, and don’t force them to come outside. If they show signs of reddening, escort them inside immediately.
