It suddenly occurred to me that the heated debate in the Coco fandom regarding the identity of Miguel’s two aunts (aka “Which is Gloria and which is Carmen”) reminds me of a similar debate which has been going on in the Lion King fandom – namely the “Which is Mega and which is Leo”.

A brief explanation for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about:

In the book “Vulture shock” – considered “semi-canon” by a great many of TLK fans – Simba’s son Kopa runs into a group of lions, amongst them two adult males. There is Mega, who is described as an older lion with a full mane – he is a minor character and only speaks once. There is also Leo, who is not described at all, but has a much bigger role in the story, and even gets a mention later in the book (“Vultures!” cried Leo.). The accompanying illustration shows a robust, full-maned lion in the foreground (and later features this very lion in the background of another scene), and a less impressive lion in the background. Thus, there is no consensus among the fans which of the two is Mega and which is Leo. Some say the lion in the foreground must be Mega, since he matches the description. Others say this lion must be Leo, since he has a bigger role in the story. Both theories are solid and, from what I can tell, the fandom is equally accepting of the "foreground Leo" and the "background Leo".

Now, I propose the Coco fandom adapts a similar approach. Let's not hate each other for having different opinions as to which of Miguel's aunts is which (Yes, I am aware that Lee Unkrich identified the more full-fledged of the two as Carmen, so this is pretty much canon, but it there still seems to be confusion in the fandom over the matter). At the end of the day, they are fictional characters, and not worth fighting over.

So I got a new tablet for Christmas :D Just trying it out on my PC for the first time and WOW. What a difference. Still getting used to it, but I can ink so much faster and confidently now! Drawing on the screen just feels so much more natural, obviously. Used the picture below as reference and inspiration!

But underneath that muscular rugged exterior of a beast was a worn down, tired, defeated and heartbroken soul. Ahadi will forever be known as “The King of Sorrow”.
