Last Saturday was a very special day for me. It was my last kiki ball in Toronto, and this is a big deal for me because I was one of the people who formed the "kiki" ballroom scene in Toronto. The kiki scene was created as a place to get some practice for the real ballroom scene in the city of Toronto, however since its inception, the kiki scene has become the forerunner as far as ballroom goes in Toronto. Originally I viewed this as a bad thing, but as I go back through the history of the kiki scene, and Toronto's ballroom scene overall... It's actually a great thing that we had our kiki scene as the forefront!! The kiki scene has been instrumental in giving it's participants a taste of EVERYTHING that the ballroom gives, both good and bad. We have had great moments where we have seen true talent emerge out of nowhere. We have seen the coming together of people who would not have been friends without the scene/ kiki house affiliations. On that same breath, we have also witnessed some down times... ie. Politics, Shade, Drugs and other bad things that are experienced in the ballroom scene... We have seen some people LEAVE THE SCENE due to these things, but yet we continue to strive and move forward.. These last few months that I've been working in the Toronto Kiki Ballroom Alliance ( #TKBA ) have been very trying. However, I have never been one to let PEOPLE or their ACTIONS or their LIES stop me from doing the things that I know are actually GOOD for the people the community.. So I've continued to go on, until I feel like I'm burnt out... and after 3.5 years of doing this... I'm a little burnt out... But thanks be to God that the #TKBA now has a GREAT council that is actually working TOGETHER to do things, and plan great events for the LGBT Youth of Colour community of Toronto.. #SHOUTOUT to the new council..  This clip is just a LET OUT, which is recorded RIGHT AFTER the balls to get people's immediate feelings on the night's events... These are usually quite funny because people really are not scared to voice how they really feel.. Hence why it's called the "LET OUT".. cuz the kids LET IT OUT!!!
