2: What scene did you first put down?
I'm writing this one very much in chronological order, so it was the very first scene with Lily arriving at the museum in the aftermath of the robbery. It isn't the first scene of the film (you actually see both Pierce Brosnan/Thomas Crown and the crew he hires as a diversion in action executing their thefts, with varying degrees of success), but it is Renee Russo's entrance as Catherine Banning, so since I have Lily in the Catherine role, and we're in Lily's POV throughout, that's where I started.
It's an extremely powerful entrance, so it was great fun to adapt it for Lily.
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
Oh god, absolutely loads! Writing stuff first:
The big thing is how much fun it is adapting other material. I usually spend ages stressing about plot in most things I write, but here, because I was paying homage to a plot I already knew really well, it's released me to just have fun with it. That sort of crossover-lite is something I'd be keen to do again.
It's also the first time that I've also given myself permission for anything to be a side project, and it has been really freeing. I'll definitely do that again.
And finally, that people really honestly do like my writing. TJPA doesn't get huge amounts of traffic, but the people who are reading it have all been so lovely and enthusiastic, I've taken loads of confidence from that into the other things I'm working on.
Then non-writing things, including but not limited to: Imperial Faberge Eggs, the Île de Ré off the coast of western France, helicopter flight ranges, historical emerald jewellery, Belgravia house prices and floor plans, and Michael Kors's 1998 RTW collection for Celine. It really has been so much fun to research!
