Took a nap today so I’m wide awake right now. So I decided to start next week’s lab a little early by annotating the procedure. WHICH IS A GOOD THING TO DO WHEN YOU TAKE ANALYTICAL CHEM. Seriously. These labs always take the longest time to performed and knowing what to do makes it easier on you.
experiment 8 - determination of total salt in a mixture using ion exchange chromatography
the first image is a titration using phenolphthalein as the indicator, it’s just barely reached the endpoint and is a very pale pink! more pink irl I promise. 3 of these titrations were completed in order to standardize the concentration of NaOH which was used to titrate.
in the second image you can see the beautiful pink colour of the methyl red indicator we used in our titrations of sea water! this is before the end point, at the endpoint it turns yellow (you can see some earlier titrations in the background!).
