Carmenâs Tip For Trips #4: Escape into the Open-Air Museum  Kulturen in Lund
Have you already spotted the beautiful old houses behind the AF-Building and ever wondered where these buildings belong to? Well, this is the open-air museum âKulturenâ, a museum spread over two blocks in our small city of Lund.
Itâs a perfect escape from your studies: in the open-air museum you get the chance to experience the historic Swedish life in the city as well as on the countryside. The time travel starts in the Middle Ages and takes you to the 1930s. In addition to that you can choose  among 20 exhibitions that show local but also world culture, folk art as well as modern one.
Tip: Visit the cozy, old-style cafĂŠ which is located in the middle of a beautiful garden (especially nice in Spring time)!
Donât get depressed from the current weather, but rather enjoy a timeout in a special atmosphere and hope for Spring to come soon! Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
At the moment there is an exhibition about Emil from LĂśnneberga, the famous kids book series from Astrid Lindgren. And letâs be honest, in everyone of us there is still a child, isnât it? ;)Â
Opening hours and more info: KulturenÂ
Cheers, Carmen

Carmenâs Tips for Trips #3: A Day in Helsingborg
Still not tired of exploring the Lundian area and its surroundings? After Lund and Gothenburg, itâs time for another trip - to Helsingborg. The city is closeby and thus, a nice escape for a day.
How to get there? This couldn't be easier - grab your Jojo-Card and within less than 30min the Ăresundstag can take you to Helsingborg Central Station. Tip: Get a Duo/Family Ticket for 2 persons, that saves money!
The train station is located in the center and inside the building is the departure for the ferries to Helsingor.
What to see?
Helsingborg Town Hall: Take a walk from the train station to Dunkers Kulturhus and pass by the magnificent town hall.Â
Dunkers Kulturhus: Swedenâs largest culture hall was build by the son of Jorn Utzon, the architect of the Sydney Opera House. Itâs located at Norra hamnen, the old harbour, which is worth a little walk. Inside Dunkers Kulturhus you will find changing exhibitions and the tourist info which provides free material and has a nice souvenir shop.
Tower of Kärnan: Donât miss the Tower of Kärnan. It is the landmark of Helsingborg and was built to defend the city. The tower itself is only open in Summer but climb up the hill on which it is build and enjoy the view over the city, the Danish coast and Helsingor.
Fredriksdal: Fredriksdal is 1.5 km walk from Kärnan towards the north of the city and one of the best Swedish open-air museums. You will find rebuild old city quarters, farms from the early days of the city, animals, a rose or a herb garden. It is a really nice place to see. (Oct.-April no entrance fee). Close to Fredriksdal you can find Tropikariet, a zoo with all natural animal enclosures.
St. Maryâs Church: On your way back from Fredriksdal make a short visit to St. Maryâs Church, the oldest church of the city (14th century). The gothic brick church has been originally been one of the biggest in Denmark.
If you plan to stay in Helsingborg the whole day, you could visit Castle Sofiero, which is outside the city. Take a stroll through the park, discover many hidden statues and sculptures in one of the most beautiful parks in Europe.
Insider-Tips
Signe Bergqvuist-Kafferepet: The oldest konditori in Helsingborg which openend in 1889. Enjoy a Swedish fika with delicious Semla (DrĂśttnigsgatan 17).
Free Wifi in the city: wifikartan.se/Helsingborg
Cheap Alcohol and Sweets: Onboard the ferry to Helsingor you can make a good deal and prepare for the next corridor party :)
Helsingor: Â In Helsingborg you find the narrowest part of the Ăresund, so take a ferry (Scandlines) to visit the Danish city Helsingor, just 20 minutes away (return trip: 67 SEK). Take a stroll through the beautiful city.
Donât miss âKulturvĂŚrftetâ, the cultural harbour of Elsinor, as the Danish call their city.  I recommend M/S Maritime Museum, recently opened in 2013 and placed inside an old dry dock at Helsingør VĂŚrft.Â
You as well must see Kronborg Castle, which inspired Shakespeare to write Hamlet. âTo be or not to beâ is still the question. There are guided tours or you can borrow a tablet for free to have a self guided tour. Donât be faint-hearted: Get yourself a torch and visit the Casemates under the castle!
Hope you enjoy your trip!
Cheers, Carmen
