Move Like a Pro
Judging by the continued activity of the real estate market along the SF Peninsula, people are moving! Letās face it: no one likes to move and it can be a very unsettling experience. Inevitably, every client I work with ends up going through this process - sometimes just a few short weeks after listing their house for sale!
While I may not have moved myself in many years, I do have some tips to help lessen the stress.
* Stage to Move - From the moment you start staging your house, start filling boxes and stashing them away.
* First Night Essentials - Use one or two totes to pack essentials for your first few nights. Items could include clothes, toilet paper, phone charger, instant coffee, a pillow, and slippers.
* Embrace Good Byes - Just because you can take it doesnāt mean you should. If you havenāt touched something in a year, it might be ready to donate that item for someone else to appreciate. Old clothes, cook books, extra sheets, redundant tools - do yourself a favor and donāt wait until after you move it across town to decide it should be donated.
* Color Code - Assign different colors of duct tape for each room and color code each box. Pack your kitchen last and unpack your bedroom first. Going to bed after a long day of moving is mandatory! Take a picture before you seal each box for a general idea of its contents.
* Supply Yourself - You will thank yourself later if you invest in a few tools. Consider these: stretch wrap (oversized plastic wrap), bubble wrap, packing paper (so much cleaner than newspaper), and Sharpies in a variety of colors.
Now go forth and move like a pro! And if you need a reason to move, let me show you some of the many terrific homes for sale today along the SF Peninsula.
