#FBF Last year the Two Trees Management company in #Brooklyn invited the local #Williamsburg community to make proposals on how they could temporarily transform a 55,000 sqft piece of land on the #Dominos Sugar factory site by the #EastRiver. The result was a green wonderland, #HavemeyerPark. Featuring a thriving community farm, a wild native garden, a spectacular bike park and a spiritual centre based around a beautiful tipi. The park also played host to open air movies, markets, a variety of classes and all manner of ceremonies. It became a very special place in the hearts of many residents during it's short lifespan from July until late September 2014. In somewhat of a consolation, #TwoTrees is turning the land into affordable housing as part of the larger redevelopment of the Dominos site. Also, many of the projects started there are seeking new homes in the neighborhood. But, what I find most fascinating and exciting about what happened at Havemeyer is that it was a expression by local people of how they would like to see their world, and their realization that their #utopia it is not far away... Everywhere abounds with land that deserves the input of it's local #community in ascertaining its purpose.
