Do you have any controversial headcanons that go against what is generally accepted by the fandom? Do you incorporate this into writing your muse or keep it to yourself? bc i too, have many.

There’s this one very popular fan theory (as ‘popular’ as things can get in this fandom anyway – we consist of maybe four people, lol) about Tsuzuki’s parentage and I have to entirely discard it for my own mental health and for not having Tsuzuki’s backstory completely overtake the focus. Those who are familiar with YnM know what I’m talking about, and I’m honestly not even comfortable mentioning it here bc it skeezes me out lol, but basically I started from scratch and made his biological father a demon.
Another thing that’s implied canon without being explicitly canon is that he was in love with his sister, which again I had to completely scrap. I took what very little we know about her and slammed a 14 year age gap between them to keep it platonic and familial. I think the mangaka herself has a lot of issues and I think sometimes she makes dumb as fuck character decisions that don’t befit them and I have to just… change it… to make it make sense again.
It’s frustrating because the other main protagonist, Hisoka, is SO well done overall, so it’s clear that Hisoka gets most of her focus when it comes to character development and backstory (which is fine, since I see him as a ‘true’ protagonist anyway, in a way). It’s just annoying when there are all these loose stray tidbits about Tsuzuki that either never go anywhere or seem completely out of character for him, so I do my best to tie up loose ends she leaves behind.
Most of the time I’m completely open about my headcanons for him, but that’s only because, again, this fandom is small. In bigger fandoms I’ve been in (like Sherlock back when I still loved it and was just getting started on tumblr) I’ve had to be defensive over my headcanons or even block people.
It makes me thankful that YnM is such a tiny fandom. I’m surrounded by like-minded people, pretty much. I’ve only ever had a disagreement surrounding headcanon like one time? With a non-rp friend, and we just agreed to disagree, lol. I think I’ve become a bit spoiled actually, it makes it hard to go back to big ones.
