Joking aside, I do seriously think if he was around the age he was when he was most popular TODAY, he would've had more support from certain platforms and found more of a stable footing with an audience.

I get that he definitely had a ton of fans in his day, but given that he was very androgynous and seemed to really like playing on the lines of the gender binary, he likely had a lot of queer fans that were unable to fully voice their love or support for him out of societal pressure or fear (I base this in stories from family and family friends who lived through the time). IMO a lot more people would've been much more receptive to his presentation now if he was currently making music.

^ I really like thinking about all of that because under his misogyny I feel like there was some repressed queerness that could've been brought out by him living in a (somewhat) more accepting time when many more people are openly queer.

I'm very sure his religious guilt ties into his misogyny too and even though that would've been a super big thing to work through ... goddd I would so have done it 😭. With the times again, more than half of the United States population was recorded to have been Catholic during the 50s and 60s, and I really really think that just having him out of that era would have been helpful in fixing him at least a little.

I also would've won the lottery or whatever. Would've given him big money to pull him out of where he was towards the end of his career.
