#tiny fiddly nightmares

Been looking up pics of old timey French alleys and buildings, in the hopes of making a book nook from scratch.

Finally decided to make a test piece. Originally, it was going to be a pair of miniature wooden shutters made of coffee stir sticks. Which I still might make eventually.

But I settled on a miniature building facade. Picked one from the photos I have:

I forget where this is, but you can put it into reverse image search.

I tried to correct for perspective, and traced / redrew the facade:

Scaled that down to what I guessed was a manageable size: 3.5 inches tall (90 mm).

Tweaked the drawings for my Cameo cutter, and added some extra parts and an offset / inset for the windows (should have added one for the ground floor shop, too, but whatever).

Cut in paper cardstock, turned out pretty decent. Decided to give it a backing / support structure and roughly cut a piece of 1.5 mm black styrene sheet:

Above, you see I have already glued down parts of the ground floor shop windows. Next, each individual part / layer is added like a ... i dunno, stack of ... pieces.

Above, the offset / inset window frame interiors.

And then the exterior facade layer (above). Very pleased with my alignment of them.

Above, I'm adding the parts of the shop front and the windowsills. I decided to cut a bunch of the smallest parts by hand. A lot of 1 mm styrene sheet strips : /

End of work for tonight – added the decorative stone 'trim.'

Still need to find some rods of appropriate thickness for the roof beams. May just wrap tape around some styrene rod. After the roof, then it's time for priming and painting. Also need to get the black base layer properly sanded to shape...
