im gonna need more drabbles about that oni!dazai and one inch samurai chuuya stuff.. I like it a lot
Bro I like how you think!
For those who don't know, the One-Inch Samurai is an old Japanese tale. You can find the basic premise of it here. Chuuya has a Mayoi card based on it.
(There is vore in this story be warned!)
SO, in my rendition for Chuuya...
The backstory basically stays the same. Chuuya is born in the countryside to a family who wants a son. Alas, he is born an inch tall and never grows. His family believes him to be a monster cursed to them for daring to ask the Gods for a child (I'm taking that from the other version because it fits Chuuya's characterization better.)
Chuuya isn't deterred by his size, and spends his whole life making something for himself. He practices the sword, trains, and works to fulfill his dream of becoming a samurai. So one day he leaves home to go find employment in the palace and slowly work his way.
He gets a job in a noble household, and they treat him well enough. Until one day the daughter of the household is taken by an oni. No one is brave enough to go against this particular oni, as it's been known as one of the most deadly and cunning. Chuuya takes this as his opportunity.
I don't believe he is saving the girl because he wants to be with her, but because he wants: (1) to prove himself as a swordsman because he has no doubt faced humiliation and gossip trying to be a samurai at such a short height. (2) Hearing rumors that the oni that took the girl holds a magic hammer that can alter his height, he doesn't have to be so tiny anymore and can prove his humanity and that his height doesn't make him something other.
So Chuuya makes this long trek with his needle-sword and finally reaches the mountain that houses the oni. Upon entering, he prepares to fight immediately.... except the oni doesn't deign to look up and see him as he declares himself?
Dazai doesn't see Chuuya at first. There's the faint sound of shouting that reaches Dazai's ears before he perceives an intruder.
The day was uneventful. He's standing by a fire in his current dwelling, reading a book he has read more times than he can count. Despite it's rich appearance with gold trim and genuine leather, old and priceless, he finds it quite dull compared to the show to come.
It's typically the same song and dance. He'll kidnap someone, some 'valiant' samurai will come to save whoever he took, and then both will die by his hand. Truthfully, he has grown bored of this charade, but for a being who has been around centuries, it's the equivalent of doodling in the sand or watching koi swim in circles around a pond.
Menial. Time consuming just for the sake of it. Meant to give him something to do.
The girl is knocked out in the locked room next to him. Her screaming was enough to sour the rest of his mood. He found it much more peaceful when she slept. There's sincere hope someone comes to 'rescue' her soon.
Sighing, he keeps flipping though his book and waiting.
It takes Chuuya climbing to stand on the table Dazai was near, yelling at the top of his lungs to get his attention. Dazai immediately freezes flipping to the next page, surprised someone was able to creep in without alerting him.
There were a few things Dazai expected to happen when he turned around.
He expected the chanting of a priest attempting to exorcise him, the bellowing of a proud warrior, a sword unsheathing from a pristine scabbard.
...He absolutely did not expect a tiny swordsman. The man looks more like a doll than a person, a tiny sword held proudly.
Dazai doesn't attempt to stop it; he can't help laughing. It's loud enough to reverberate and send full body shudders through Chuuya, but Dazai can see it only causes him to grip his sword tighter and hold it up in deviance. What fascinates him is that the man does not back down or show fear.
"Demon! I am here to-"
Dazai cuts him off immediately, wiping a fake tear from his eye. "My my, I must say, I wasn't expecting someone like you."
"I-"
"I've seen many types of creatures in my life, but I've never seen a chibi before!" he claps his hands together.
Chuuya stands, stunned, "A what?!"
"A chibi," Dazai states matter of factly. "You know a tiny person, vertically challenged-"
"I'll kill you!"
This is always the best part of these games. Men who thought themselves invincible brought to their knees in fear. Shaking and crying for mercy.
Dazai face exudes amusement.
The book is shut and promptly thrown to the side with no care as it thuds heavily to the ground. Dazai moves closer to the table- leisurely, self-assured. He makes no effort in trying to be less intimidating. His footsteps shake Chuuya in his spot, movements fluid but also meant to take up space and loom.
He scrapes the chair against the ground, just trying to be annoying with it, and sits down in front of Chuuya. Chuuya backs up as Dazai crosses his arms on the table and rests his head on them, putting more space between the two as Dazai takes up the spot he was originally standing in.
Dazai's voice is just like the smile gracing his lips- smug. "So tell me, little samurai, what brings you here?"
Dazai makes a show of his fangs as he says it. Makes sure to tap his claw on the table slowly while he waits for a response, just so Chuuya looks at them. Easily long and sharp enough to stab the swordsman.
This is the pinnacle of it- When the swordsman would cower and see Dazai is nowhere near scared. That maybe they misjudged the strength of an oni who has been on this Earth too long. They start to stumble in their words and take steps back with the intention to escape.
Chuuya does none of it. Rather, he marches forward, sword still held up proudly and face determined. "I'm here to retrieve the girl. You'll die if you don't bring her to me now!"
Dazai raises an eyebrow. His eyes narrow and he ponders if there is something here he is missing. This was supposed to be his easiest quarry.
Yet it's interesting.
"Now don't worry about her. She's alive and breathing." Even if he doesn't want her to be. "Let's talk about you instead," he hums. "What's your name? Have you always been this height? Were your parents that height as well? Maybe they were two inches tall and you're still growing?"
Dazai had plenty of questions left, but they were cut off when Chuuya rushes forward unexpectedly, having none of this bullshit, and decides to take the first swing.
The action is swift and felt immediately. Dazai hisses as he lifts his hand to see the damage. It's minimal. The size of a shallow paper cut on his finger that bubbles only a drop of blood at most.
Inconsequential. Slightly pathetic. Barely enough to sting as he wipes the blood away with his other hand, staring at the smear like Rosetta's Stone.
Dazai smiles wider if possible.
"Looks like the little dog does more than bark," he looks down at Chuuya, who doesn't waver at the weak response to his attack. He positions himself to defend if the oni tries to come after him.
"You're going to need to do more than that if you want to fetch, little swordsman."
"Don't call me that," Chuuya spits. "You think I'm going to stop after one swipe? I'll keep stabbing you till you bleed out."
"Charming, but I'll have to decline. I'm not a fan of pain, afterall." He pushes Chuuya with one of his claws. Chuuya guards against it but it's a futile attempt as he stumbles backwards from the force of the motion. Dazai takes the blunder as an opportunity to grab Chuuya's sword from his grip.
He holds it up to his eyes, turning it all sides to look at it. "I have had holy swords, legendary relics, and all manners of weaponry used against me." He states as if it's a proud achievement. "But a needle is a new one to check off my list. Are there no tiny blacksmiths where you come from? I can get one made for you if you want!"
Chuuya doesn't bother responding to such a stupid offer. His brows furrow more, hands fisted at his sides as he contemplates what to do next.
And Dazai is wondering too! Is there even a plan or did Chuuya just come in waving his sword? Perhaps just overzealous and too sure of his abilities. Or maybe he really does bite?
"It's my mission to bring the girl back alive or die trying. And I don't plan on dying today!"
Dazai sneers, he looks back to the other side of the room. A door shut and bolted that hides the girl Chuuya is trying to retrieve. Even from this angle, Chuuya could only see pure distaste in Dazai's glare, as if his gaze alone would kill her and ruin Chuuya's mission.
Why does Chuuya have to be so insistent? That particular game is over.
"Like I said, you don't need to worry about her. Your brain must also be small if you forgot I told you that. No matter!" Dazai perks up, inflection immediately switching from the brooding hatred to a more jovial, pleased look.
"You can also forget about your needle!" Without turning around, he tosses the prized needle backwards and it lands perfectly in the fire. The small piece of metal is not discernable in the large flames, most likely lost to the embers.
Swiftly, no preamble, Dazai moves forward, eyes filled to the brim with glee, almost invisible as he moves his hand and grabs Chuuya. The grip is too tight as he puts him to eye level, arms pinned as he struggles still to free himself. Only there sweat on his temple now that he realizes his predicament.
Dazai pays no heed to the trepidation, only looking like the cat that finally caught its favorite mouse.
"You won't be needing it anyway!"
Really, Dazai has no plans to kill Chuuya. Why do that when this is the most interesting human that has pursued him in centuries? But he also wants to see the limits of his resolve, his humanity. Would Chuuya give up after a certain point? Or is he destined to keep burning until he died? Whichever it was, Dazai wants to be there for his last breathe of it.
Maybe it's wrong to keep Chuuya like this, but Dazai believes he fixed that dilemma. Chuuya isn't a pet but a companion. Someone to keep him company when the loneliness is too much. He would still be treated well.
Dazai's best idea now is to just swallow Chuuya, kill the girl to end the charade, and go somewhere else and keep Chuuya with him. Maybe even find out his name!
Dazai of course makes sure he doesn't even nick his clothes. His fangs don't grace Chuuya's skin. There is no intention of harming him. He isn't particularly fond of eating humans as his barbaric brethren do, but swallowing and holding is a different ballgame. As long as Chuuya stays alive. Chuuya is swallowed kicking and cursing.
Chuuya does live after the descent. He's not afraid as he should be. No, mostly shocked. Also thoroughly pissed off and ready to end this.
Truthfully, Chuuya figured this might happen (as much as he hates to admit it, his size does make this much more possible). His best chance of killing an oni was from the inside afterall. So he takes out a dagger (needle) he hid on his person and begins stabbing Dazai from the inside.
Dazai feels that. And while it's not fatal, it's definitely painful. Stabbing isn't a particular nice feeling, and neither is his hyperawareness of the bleeding inside. He cries of unfairness and cruelty, spitting Chuuya out and calling him a brute. He whines that he will feel the bleeding for days and that he might not heal and will eventually die. Chuuya tells him good riddance.
Leaving Dazai to pout, he goes and finds the magic hammer and hits himself with it. He goes back to the living room, now at a proud 5' 3'', and stands over Dazai in triumph.
"I didn't think the hammer would make you short for a person's standards as well."
He doesn't kill Dazai, no weapon on him that could, but he does punch his lights out and goes to retrieve the girl.
Chuuya does end up leaving the hammer, though it's enticing to take it. Dazai isn't dead, and taking that hammer would only mean the absolute nuisance would come bug him for it back. Chuuya would like to go the rest of his life without seeing this guy.
It's great for Chuuya! He returns with fame for defeating the oni and bringing the girl back, works to become a samurai (he is very proficient with a sword, but he is learning fighting other people his size)
...Yes, he is a little on the short side with his 5 foot 3 inches, but that doesn't matter when he is still at a regular height!
Chuuya enjoys his normal life for a week.... until that night when he goes to bed and wakes up at an inch again.
At first, he thinks he is dreaming of a time with furniture he had to make himself and clothes sewed from his own hands. But after pinching himself and leaving his, now huge, room, he knows this isn't fake.
He feels cold dread, because he's right back where he started. The only difference is he got a taste of a normal life and had it harshly stripped from him in a week... and he doesn't want to go back.
He does track his way back to Dazai in the middle of the night, unable to live with this till morning. He hates how relieved he feels seeing that Dazai still lives in the same place.
Upon entering, he sees Dazai at the table, despondent and bored. His head leaning on one hand while looking at the table, eyes dark and clearly with lack of sleep. Chuuya is surprised he isn't nearly as animated as he was when they first met.
Chuuya climbs up on the table again. Walking up to Dazai to let him know that that hammer was a scam and didn't keep him taller for long.
Dazai blinks, wondering if Chuuya is actually there or if he is hallucinating. A string of curses his way and a kick to the arm lets him know it's real. More than happy to see Chuuya again, he easily let's Chuuya know the magic hammer isn't a miracle worker (even if it is but Dazai rigged it) and that it would only keep Chuuya's height for a week at a time. He would have to reapply it every week.
Chuuya freaks out at this. There was no way Dazai would give up the hammer. Dazai always worms into Chuuyas brain that the hammer can be deactivated by Dazai whenever he pleases as it is his (maybe a lie. Dazai will never tell). So Chuuya is stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Rather than relinquishing the hammer or leaving Chuuya like this, Dazai offers a trade: Letting Chuuya continue to use the hammer whenever he wants, and in exchange, Dazai gets to travel with him with Chuuya providing him company.
It is definitely rocky at first, but Chuuya does at least give his name to Dazai.
But yeah I love this AU and I definitely have more headcannons on what would happen after this story <3
(Also I'm so so sorry with how long this took me. It has been awful with classes these past few months T-T)
