One of my girls laid a little fairy egg today! It is tbh the cutest thing ever, and I got a laugh when looking it up online to see what exactly causes it. Mostly because everyone has their own funny names for them witch eggs, fart eggs, rooster eggs, wind eggs, and my favorite fairy eggs. Apparently the "witch" eggs used to be seen as a sign that the devil or a witch was cursing you or whatnot, and it just gave me a chuckle thinking about Satan acting like a teenager just messing with chicken eggs to torment folks! Like they're the cutest fucking things ever, and Satan and his witches are just sneaking them under chickens for lolz.
For anyone who's curious it's just an egg that starts to form before the yolk bit is released. So it's only got the white of the egg in there and as there's no yolk it stays small and eventually passes like a normal egg. It like a hormonal mistiming so they're not really a cause for concern. They mostly occur in young pullets who have just started laying, like my girls, or older hens at the end of their laying days.
