I am not a Mormon anymore. I'm not a rabid Mormon hater like I was promised I would become but I am not a Mormon. I was...I was raised Mormon born to a family fully immersed in the ways of Mormonism. I was someone, my moms family were prominent members in the Mormon church. They were pioneers, I have the founder of the youth program, the Primary, and former leaders, Bodyguards to prophets, polygamous families dot my ancestors too. I was proud and I believed that they had done the right things and I believed when I followed in their footsteps I was doing the right things too. Things that would lead me to heaven, enlightenment, truth. I should also say I was always a black sheep. I was always causing trouble, fighting, stealing, I left before when I was a teenager but even then I believed. I just thought I was bad. I came back when I was father to an 8 year old who saw his cousin baptized and asked me when I would baptize him. That was the start of my return. It's a long story but I was "back". I followed all the rules, no drinking, no smoking, no coffee or tea, no porn, no loud laughter (inside joke for some of my ex-mo's). I was a "good". I baptized my kids went to the temple, jumped through all the hoops. I was faithful and pushed the church agenda at home. Then I had an experience that ended it all. If anyone is interested I am happy to share about it. But I told my local leader that I couldn't do it anymore. They asked if they could still come by and visit and I agreed. I was certain there was nothing they could offer that would change anything. But I secretly hoped. In my deepest corner of my soul I prayed silently that something would be brought to light to answer all my questions, make all the lies and bullshit true. I wanted to know this was a great test and I passed. But after a couple of the months the visits have dried up and it appears I was always in the loan and dreary world, I just wishfully dreamed there was a garden there at the Mormon church. Tonight something just occurred to me no matter what I can't go home again. It's like when my mom and dads house burnt down there was no more of that home to return to. Ideas, memories, but no home. They will never be able to make their lies and deceptions true, they will never make the science stick and they will never come out for being the falsity they are. I wish sometimes to wake up and have my old life back it was much easier to have someone to tell me how to think, feel, sleep, eat, drink, love, worship, and live than it is to learn as an adult how to do it successfully. Oh well it's down the yellow brick road I guess I guess the green of the emerald (salt lake) city was just all the tithing money glinting in the sun...
