So the good news first: as I mentioned in a reblog of the older post from this month, we got a car! It's a 2000 Honda Odyssey, so it's much older than we had initially wanted, but we just had it looked at by the mechanic we use and generally it's in really good condition for a 26-year-old van. We've been running around dealing with the car since Monday, but after we get the new plates from AAA everything will be more or less done. There's a few accessories I need to buy because for some reason I cannot find the stuff from our old car at the moment but generally, we managed to have almost $900 left over from the money my uncles sent it and have put all that to good use.
We do currently have enough to cover the more pressing repairs our mechanic suggested (he's working on our car as we speak because a friend of mine sent $500 to cover anything over the $400 we had to put towards it already) but while the initial estimate had been $400 I called my mom after that and brought up the lock situation and the side doors, which are not huge problems but if he can work on them now that would be awesome.
Now, there is one minor issue I think we'll try to get our mechanic to fix later this week and two more major (but not "OMG we need to take care of this now!") problems we need to work on later. Right now the driver and passenger side doors don't stay ope when we open them, which makes it hard for my mom to get out and get to her walker, though it's not a major issue, just more of annoyance. The other two issues, which will cost about $1500 each to fix, are important but we can wait three to six months to get those fixed which gives us time to raise the money for that.
Now, unfortunately, I had initially taken out a $180 loan earlier in the month, and to physically be able to get an Uber to get to the seller, I had to take out another loan that's going to cost me $300 on the third, not counting the two loans I can't (or really shouldn't) defer next month that are around $100 each, so while I want to raise money to get the more major repairs done I really need help paying off the $180 and $300 loans. If we can get the minor repair on the doors done today or later this week we'll do those now, but anything else (aside from about $40 for me to get stuff for the house) that we have left is going in my account to try and pay down those two loans. I might be able to cover the $180 on my own, depending on how much the repairs costs go up, but the $300 one is going to hurt us really badly.
We also need a little help with gas because I'm having to reschedule one of my mom's appointments today because the mechanic is going to take another hour (at least) for the repairs so we're going to try and schedule it the same day as my daughter's next therapy appointment since both appointments are through the same clinic. If not, we'll try and schedule it on the 30th which is literally the only free day we have next week.
I'm also going to call Legal Aid's housing division about potential illegalness with our lease and we may need to see someone in person, with is another trip out to Vista to the courthouse there (I think...we're really screwed if we need to go to downtown San Diego because we'll need to take an Uber and that's about $100). But the situation on that is basically we think they switched us from a yearly lease to a month-to-month without informing us, and we've got the owners of our building lying about the refrigerator (they said it was replaced last year, I had to tell my property manager it actually wasn't and was just repaired twice for the same issue we're having now) so we're worried. But! Property manager did say she was going to reach out to the washing machine repair company and see if we could get the fridge repaired instead of replaced because the owners are balking at replacing it. So there's all that, too.
So lots of good news, but help with getting the two more major issues of the car fixed/getting the few household supplies we need/buying shelf-stable food and V-necked clothing for me from the Amazon wish list would be very much appreciated,a s would reblogs of this post.
EDIT: The issues with the front door locks are $500 each door, and the fixes for the sliding doors are $700 each so we now need to raise $5400 for the car, not $3000.
