During the 60s and 70s it was a common plot device for The Atom to take a plunge in his Time Pool to observe (and invariably participate) in some sort of historical event. In "The Little Man from Mars," Ray Palmer/The Atom travels back to the evening of the "War of the Worlds" broadcast to seek information concerning a modern estate. Some thugs looting a movie theater during the panic tossed the Mighty Mite into a nearby popcorn machine where the physicist had this novel approach for escape. Action Comics #442, December 1975.
