there was a recent study implying they do, BUT that study drew its results from a sample of 15 shelter rabbits, which is……..a very small skewed sample to be drawing conclusions from. I’m hoping the research team will follow up with a larger study in the future.

veterinarian Catherine Thomas says that lop-eared breeds are prone to external ear infections, in the fold where their ear flops. this can be prevented by checking your rabbit’s ears for build-up and taking them in for annual vet appointments.

susceptibility to ear infections is genetic (wonky/tight ear canals are a thing), so regardless of whether your bun has erect or lopped ears, be sure to take note if they start obsessively grooming/scratching or shaking their head. that’s a sign that a vet trip is needed!

If I had to speculate, I’d hazard that people just figure it must be true, so they say it like it’s a fact, to sound smart. 

Once I was using my phone to record someone in public in LA because I thought she might start a fight or something. She didn’t, but then when I put down the phone and she realized she was being recorded she started saying over and over “It’s illegal in the state of California to record a person.”
