Faith knows she she shouldn’t know what this is about, so she rushes to Hannah with feigned concern. “Yes, mother?”

“That foul, horrible, disgusting, un-Godly Oswald boy stopped by as Peter was leaving for work! He called off your courtship!” Hannah was spitting as much as speaking, and Faith took a step back. “You are never, ever to associate with any Oswald ever again!”

“Maeve is a foul influence! As a GODLY and HONORABLE man, unlike CERTAIN DEVIL FAMILIES named STODDARD AND HOPPER/PETERSON/WHATEVER, Chris knew to COMMIT TO and HONOR God’s Will of ONE PARTNER ONLY, just as He COMMANDS, so he NEVER even THOUGHT ABOUT entering a RELATIONSHIP with someone OTHER THAN Lucille, who was SUPPOSED to be HIS GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mrs. Tidwell, this post is very inappropriate. Proverbs 20:19, Ephesians 4:29, Leviticus 19:16, 1 Timothy 5:13, and more make God’s stance on slander and gossip clear. You did not need to mention my family when announcing this courtship, you could have shared Brenda’s testimony to patience and left it at that. It is very disappointing to see a sister in Christ act this way.

“Let me get this straight: you’re not, and you want me to date Maeve to hide that, but I can’t marry her?”

“If you find a girl you like for real, then Maeve can break up with you,” Faith says. “All the social repercussions will fall on her, but it’s to our advantage if she’s seen as vilely un-dateable.”

“Fine.” Adam stares at the snow. He didn’t intend to date anybody, he intended to run away. But the last thing he wants is more restrictions on his life, so he had to make sure Faith would let him have some freedom. “I’ll date Maeve.”
