Mad because of a small thing admittedly, but you want a sum up?

I'm mad because I hyped myself up to write a MSA/Tadeo Jones crossover oneshot that would basically be Vivi being excited to meet an actual living Mummy, with other things, but the majority... and then started thinking beyond that small scope of fun and just-- got frustrated.

Because here's the thing... I made a post about Vivi and her glasses, and then started thinking about the crew in Tadeo Jones and--

Like here's the deal, my brain... just... completely forgot Sara has glasses. I remembered Tiffany's glasses. I remembered the PHOTO with glasses-- but the first ten minutes of Sara's screen time being spent with her in glasses? NAH--

Sooo that's not actually what this post is about. Just a small annoyance with myself. So what is this post about-- well the obvious is look at the title, Sara Deserves Better.

Also, not just shipping wise... but mainly shipping wise, because GOD DAMN IT. Let Sara break free of the Love Interest box PLEASE. Because for crying out loud, it's been two movies and this is one of the most painful flaws I can see. Also-- just as an aside, I really, really want to like Sara but right now... she's stuck in that box so much she's honestly kind of... bland and boring to watch.

In general. I want to say something that's just, my BIG gripe and the reason I come bearing this rant but...

Vivi.

VIVI is why I'm making this RANT!

And you want to know why? It's because in the approximately 16 odd minutes of the Mystery Skulls Animated vidoes we get-- SO MUCH information about who she is and what she stands for as a character. WE HAVE SO MUCH TO WORK WITH. Hell even in the brief flashback sequence, there's a lot to analyse and unpack-- she's not just reduced to-- Lewis' former girlfriend despite how easily that could have been the case. Which-- I mean, I have... a number of rants for Vivi in the works... beyond just my MBTI analysis that's already up...

BUT conversely... and maddeningly-- I can't say the same for Sara. Between the two movies if there is one character who feels kind of... empty aside overtures, or rather underdeveloped... it's Sara.

Which is a crying shame. But there's two movies of content and I still only have the vaguest idea of WHO she really is as a person. Oh I know who she is. But... I don't really know Who she is.

Like, seriously... the closest we get to some glimpses is this opening of movie 2, some scenes in movie one, and her moment with Mummy.

Which... I have other things to talk about regarding this... a more proper analysis regarding her verses Tadeo on these events... BUT THAT'S ANOTHER ANALYSIS.

Also what moments from Movie 1?

How's about priorities?

"But first tell me if ANYTHING you told me was true!"

ALSO, I have some things to say about Tadeo's response to this... but that's ALSO deserving of it's whole own analysis and it really wouldn't be fair... And aside this... well again... moments.

Which... I still don't actually have much, but these are sort of... the moments with the most character from Sara. OH, aside from when she's with Tiffany, and arguably-- when alone and kidnapped with Rackham... which, huh-- That would bring me to another point honestly... but this isn't actually my "Making your Villain Memorable" rant. ALTHOUGH-- The Rackham stuff and Tiffany will need to be addressed.

I want to talk about the moments I currently have first. Which aren't... precisely in order, but I think they're in order of the impact for me.

Which first moment is when Tad's sacrificing his father's cufflink, his greatest treasure. Giving it to Mummy, and again-- I have many words... but what's telling is Sara's reaction and how that kind of ties into the significance there. Because overall it just says-- well, it says how deeply she's affected seeing it as well-- Which isn't something you see much in these movies unfortunately.

The next moment I would like to call the "I sense bullshit radar". Considering how she finds Tad's story initially a bit flawed, also laying out the law, starting to plan. Sara has a head on her shoulders and is NO FOOL.

UNTIL SHE IS.

And I think only HALF of this final highlight moment can be blamed on the situation because heyyyy--

Let's circle around to the Rackham stuff. And... other movie 2 stuff.

Which, I know this miiiight be arbitrary or not really something that can be linked. BUT there's a difference in how she handles these moments... And hell, I would also add the opening to movie 2-- but Sara has... levelled her head A LOT more when it comes to handling potentially life threatening danger between movies. In what information she grabs(opening) and then in the above scene, what she actually lets the villain learn.

Which also, anyone else get a short circuit feeling from that?

And hell, even as much as I have issues with the whole sequence of events and a SPOILER filled rant about it...

Even here, again. Pretty chill, pretty level. At best/worst it's really stunned silence. But this scene has a number of issues and I have a rant that will go up after a fic(if I can just keep myself long enough to WRITE that fic...). And just... well--

Then the last thing is-- well Tiffany.

Also... just generally on this second screencap here, I like to just-- talk about the moment before as well-- since there's something just... Really wild in what leads to it.

Like... why does she look SO CONFUSED?! Like-- I don't know if I'm the only one who sees this, but when Rackham first shows up... she looks so confused, like how could he get there so quickly?! And then Tiffany steps out and there's that shocked expression and it gives off this sense that just-- When Tiffany stormed off Sara knew but she didn't know. Like you ever have those moments-- where you know someone's going to make a bad decisions... and yet-- you're still SHOCKED by how bad a decision they make?

Yeah, that's Sara here... and she's... been trying with Tiffany.

But still... yeah.

And what does all this ultimately add up to?

Sara still being too broad in the long of it.

BECAUSE IT TOOK ME A GOOD HOUR, OR TWO, Of ranting and discussing this with some friends for me to dig out these moments and I STILL don't have a solid, solid character for Sara. And do you know why?

Because of the one FATAL FLAW...

Forced

Romance

...And when I say forced romance, I really, really mean it. Do you know what one of my BIGGEST COMPLAINTS of movie 2 is. It's that when Sara gets mad, or feels like she should be mad, it's not allowed to hold. It's just glossed over. And then of course, complaint two is the other obvious thing. Sara feels... as if she's just there to dispense the plot and then to be kidnapped.

She spends the first two and a half quarters of the movie kidnapped, and even after only gets the barest amount of screen time. Hell she had MORE to do in movie 1, and that's probably because the plot was broader and gave them all time to shine with action, even if she still felt-- hard.

Like seriously, does-- any of these moments stand out on their own? Without a number of rewatches and forcing my focus to actually be on Sara to analyse... not really. It all blends and blurs because of one big thing that EATS up her character and forces it into that kind of bland box.

She's forced and pushed to fit the lens of the love interest. With Tad's chasing-- and how that impacts the story.

And I'd also like to complain about ANOTHER thing in this similar vein but...

In movie one there's a sequence I... haven't really brought up in this rant, along with in general how Sara is there-- because here's the thing. Aside the glimpses... she... really feels like a PROP a lot of the time. In both movies. But-- in movie 1 there are a few moments specific.

And the first is actually the train moment with Kopponen. Sara was definitely NOT going to hand the tablet over...

But of course, Tad had to SCREW UP trying to be a hero... and for the rest of the sequence it feels a lot like Sara's only purpose is to more or less be grabbed and damselled again... And even later on, it feels like Wasted Potential--

Like, she's used to motivate other characters--

Which okay... I'm not going to say that Vivi is excused from, since that's who I'm comparing her with... BUT there's a DRASTIC difference of character agency in HOW and why they are used as motivation between them.

Might not on the surface seem like much of a difference--

Especially in the immediate context that's offered here with how Lewis is using the picture in his locket and the implied additional angle to his attempted revenge against Arthur-- which, mind you-- there's a HELL of a lot more going on there... BUT-- When it comes to the ACTION... not just that moment up higher... but when there's actual ACTIVE danger...

Come Hellbent... And Shiromori...

Meanwhile with Sara the best we have across both movies... is moments. She handles herself in the opening of the sequel and-- well we actually have the climbing sequence to the final temple... which... I have-- words about as well, but the big ones right now is actually in the choice of lyrics playing over what--

But...

Sara actually only gets the "Now I'm Invincible" stuff-- or the Majority of it. There might be the more romance stuff, but for the most part-- she's pretty much being defined as "Invincible on her own" which also... yeah. It's true. The strongest moments for Sara are those moments when she's on her own, and away from the Tadeo drama... or even when she was used to motivate her Dad's actions in the first movie.

Which... actually makes me circle back to something that just... doesn't fit.

"It's been the most amazing adventure. All these days with you. I wouldn't trade that for the world. I... I love..."

WHICH LOOK

Isn't Sara supposed to be the expert on the whole of what this movie is about? King Midas' Collar and Golden Touch, this was her long term project. So why is it that in this scene she's forgotten all that she's supposedly studied and why they're even here? Like does anyone else get death confession vibes from this, which... considering Sara should know this is supposed to be reversible?!

Because forced romance plot.

I mean, I have more to say, but honestly... at this point I'm running out of ways to properly articulate my points. But in the end... what can I say about Sara now that I'm at the end of my rant? You know, beyond FREE HER FROM THE ROMANCE PLOT....

Well, actually a lot more than I expected or thought at the start... And that's because now I've been through and watched with focus on her. Although some of it still had to be informed and given to me.

Which yeah--

Sara is an expert in her own field, supposedly anyway. Which, let's be fair, that's not her fault, that's plot mandated information failures.

She's Peruvian, which, I think is established in the first movie, that's her home. And where she's grown up, but it's really not made clear in either movie. Or at the least, not as clear as it should be. PLEASE GIVE HER MORE PERUVIAN PRIDE I SWEAR--

She is clearly much, much more impressed by Tadeo when he's being humble and honest. Like just damn. Those are the traits she respects and what's to see.

Sara actually respects and listens to other people, she's patient with them and hears out what they have to say. And this... isn't just with Mummy in that scene, but also she's patient with Tiffany and-- I do have more to say on that... but again, another post.

She is definitely in this for knowledge and awareness than necessarily results. She's not chasing fame.

Honestly, she shines so, so much better when there's NO ROMANCE, and really is a strong women on her own. Doesn't need anyone.

Has chased after her father's recognition, in the same field, to having the same issue of leaving behind those she cares for... Time is limited you know.

“Y-You–“ His eyes narrow at the blond, flame hairflickering slightly. “You really– you haven’t paid attention at al! Damn You!!”his hair flares, the mechanic screaming at him. Lightning flashing, staticraising in the air, prickling over his bones and suit. His own hands curl, aroaring in his skull as he looms. Raising up off the ground, higher and morethreatening over the blond who glares,challenging up at him. “You expect me– You– You–“

In the magenta light of his flames he can see a shine, thefaintest glimmer at the edge of Arthur’s eyes. But that hardly matters, as hetilts his skull back, looking down on him.

“You’re clearly not yourself! The Arthur I know…” hepauses, watching Arthur grit his teeth, mismatched hands curling. The littlewhirr of gears and parts, the click of metal connecting. And he glares straightback down at him. “Then again– That you would never push me off a cliffeither– but I was wrong!” and it allrushes back, smothering and engulfing, that roar in his ears becoming a howl offlames. Arthur barely has a chance to let out a gasp as his hand snapsforwards.

A fistful of that white shirt, he hoists the mechanic up,eyes glaring, burning into those wide, wide amber ones.

“You! You have no idea! None!” he snarls, dragging himforwards, smoke wafting up faintly from the fisted material. Ignoring the littlewhimper, the shine of those unshed tears. The heat is nothing to him, nothingas he sneers. “The hell– hell that you putme through, when you murdered me!”

It flashes, that moment. The cave, the fall, the pain, red,red, no, they can’t– He closes hiseyes, for a moment his grip slackening. Before it tightens again and he swingsArthur around. Tossing him to the wall. Ignoring his cry of pain, only shakinghis head and letting out a small sigh. Really, now, he raises his head.

“But we can put all that behind us… right– Mi Ratoncito”

He floats forwards, fire slowly simmering down as he lands,and Arthur looks up at him. Trembling, shirt singed and oh– his eyes shadeover, and he kneels down, ignoring that flinch and whimper as his hand reachesforwards to trace it, a frown crossing his face as he flickers back to normal.

Lewis– human Lewis…

“Oh look at what you made me do Ratoncito–“ he sighs,shaking his head. “Well, we’ll just have to get you a new one, and you know notto–“

“GET AWAY FROM ME!” He jerks back, feeling the slap but that’snot what stings. “Y-you’re not Lewis! You–You’re nothing– nothing but–“ Arthur hiccups stumbling back, wet trailsstaining his cheeks. Quickly drying in the next flare of magenta flame. A whooshas again his form is engulfed.

The fire burns around them.

And he casts his shadow down on the mechanic glaring.Challenging him right back. Arthur grits his teeth, glares up through tears andshakes his head.

“You’re a monster!”

“You’re right…” he muses, for a moment raising one blackgloved and white plated hand up. “A monster– The monster you made me!” he points and Arthur runs. Now that won’t do. With asnap of his fingers his mansion reacts to his will. This whole building, theplace they stand is his. He laughs asArthur’s put on a treadmill. “You can run and run Kingsmen– But you can’tescape judgement!” he sneers, floating over, and catching him.

The paintings around them shift, glaring as his beats pickup the haunting melody. He tilts Arthur’s chin up, those tears shining in thereflected magenta light.

“You can run and run!” he repeats, curling him close. Graspon the blond tight, able to feel tears beginning to stain his nice finemidnight purple suit. “But I refuseto let you go!” Not until judgement was cast. And truly–

“Listen! No, really listen. We need a break right?”

Sometimes, a break is all that’s needed. And quite often, that break will be in the level of seriousness around the department floor. And it starts with a binge night, before everyone seems to collectively try their best to be as ridiculous as possible while still doing their jobs.

Officers in clown uniforms, a unicycle and running literally up the walls to settle for a moment or even-- to some of those they’re trying to interview.

“Let me play you the world’s smallest--“

“Is this a meme?”

“Ahhhhhhhh” and even an officer rolling around on heelies and it’s chaos. Organized chaos, but still chaos. Which doesn’t even stop when he comes home and his husband is getting up to some antics of his own. Dramatically falling down and--

He can’t help it.

“Oh no!” he gasps, one hand up to his mouth. “This is so sad! Siri play Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek”

Mhmm Whatcha Say

Only for his husband to snap up and hold a bubble gun to him and-- now it’s his turn to dramatically fall down to the song. Before they’re all laughing, his husband’s friends stepping in, wondering-- and it’s like a chain.

Now, before I actually begin this thing there is something I should probably say about this. It’s both based on their personalities, but also, slightly on their associated colours... and well, as a result some of them may feel incredibly obvious considering how I have chosen them... but at the same time, some of them may confuse people because uh, how did I possibly come to that conclusion... also to be thorough, I will be explaining the Primary flame mostly, with a small sub-note for potential Secondary/Tertiary flames where they feel necessary... as a result you people will be getting quite a bit of a rundown... also this is just for fun, and just my interpretation of things and you’re allowed to have your own opinion and even point out any flaws in the logic that I have used to determine flame compatibility...

You know beyond the obvious colour =/= exclusive to a flame... but you know... this will be fun.

Vivi Yukino:

First up, everyone’s favourite blue babe!

So, initially my impulse with Vivi was actually to label her as a Storm, which considering she’s blue might be a bit weird to think about, but uh... it kind of made sense considering Storms are Determination... and there is no pretending that Vivi isn’t determined... but at the same time, it doesn’t quite fit. Despite my initial impulse, I pushed that aside and actually considered Vivi. Now for the most part the fandom tends to uh, not exactly put as much focus on her as they could, I guess that’s the fault of the general way that the plot gets laid out... I mean what with Lewis and Arthur being tangled in the whole mess left from the cave, her missing memories, and then Mystery with Shiromori and whatever is happening there...

But anyway, back to the point, what is Vivi’s role? The leader! She’s the one at the helm. Dragging the boys along with her, whether they want her to or not... and I know the sterotype is Leader=Sky, but no. No, let’s not go there, and also it’s not quite right for Vivi... I mean it’s fitting in a thematic sense I guess... but not really. So let’s keep considering, Vivi is the one who plans things, she’s the one who finds the mysteries for them to solve, and well, I guess she has the background to know about how this all works as well... but that said, Vivi is also the most “level” I guess of the team.

She’s reliable.

Loyal, she Perseveres, Devoted, she definitely cares for her team, and oh yeah, she definitely has Integrity.

No doubt regarding those things. No doubt at all. And what does this all add up to? Well, she’s a Rain.

Also, just as a final note, I was in no way influenced to this judgement by the fact that best Rain Takeshi plays baseball and Vivi wields a bat... not at all!

But anyway, Vivi’s a rain, with the blue flames, and the ability to tranquilize others. Something that I’m sure would be useful in the business that she has chosen to take up... also, notably, the reliability that she has that clinched my decision... I think that’s the reason that she’s the leader. They know that they can rely on her, they can count on her. And isn’t that the thing you want your leader to be more than anything else? Reliable...

Secondary flame: Storm.

Lewis Pepper:

(I’m aware that Arthur’s canonically the elder of the two of them, but shh, I am sticking with my original headcanon!)

Mist!

No but seriously, can we just appreciate how much of a showman Lewis is for one second. Like seriously. All the glim and glam for his mansion, not even mentioning the little touches that he adds to things in Freaking Out and just... Lewis stop, stop it! But seriously, he’s fantastic and it’s so obvious I don’t really have to think that much about this, since he’s just... so much of a mist. Not to mention he fits the more mysterious parts of the “stereotypical” mist as well. What with his mysterious past... I mean just seriously.

Dramatic showmanship and just that flare. Lewis is definitely a mist, no one can argue that point okay! No one!

Okay, I should probably explain just a little bit more about this before people start grumbling and asking exactly why I didn’t jump to Cloud. And aside the colour association... Lewis just doesn’t feel all that much like a Cloud... not really... I mean, then again, he could kind of be like Skull, a whole lot of showmanship and bark, but still... Mists are Visionary, and Clouds are Independent. So what does this mean in regards to Lewis... well here’s the thing, Lewis works with his family, Pepper Paradiso. He works there, and well also, let’s have a quick look at those traits between the two... All of them, positive and negative...

Indigo: Integrity, sincerity, structure, regulations, responsible, idealism, intuition, visionary, faith, devotion, truth, and selflessness. Fanatical, judgmental, intolerant, impractical, inconsiderate, depression, fearful, conformative, bigoted, avoidant

Purple: Individual, unusual, creative, inventive, selfless, psychic, intuitive, mystery, selfless, future, and fantasy. Immature, impractical, aloof, cynical, pompous, arrogant, corrupt, and delusions of grandeur

I mean, I suppose you could argue either way but... my headcanon definitely leans more towards the indigo side of things... Especially with the way that he reacted upon rising up from the dead... Oh boy was he immediately judgemental, somewhat inconsiderate to... I mean think about it... Also can’t say he might not be scared... and he’s possibly avoiding thinking too much about previous events... as for indigo positives. Think about the kind of family he comes from, what with think about the Peppers as a whole. Also on that note, yes, Lewis is selfless, he’s honest(tells the truth), seemed kind of like an idealist before his death, was the “Mom friend” and all the evidence seems to point to the fact he was devoted to Vivi, and definitely devoted to his family... so yeah...

(Also just look at all the flare, and the way he casually does things like summon lampposts to make the fight more dramatic facing off against Shiro!)

Secondary: Cloud

Arthur Kingsmen:

Now I kind of automatically want to go with Author Appeal here, go with my first impulse of Sky-Arthur... but I know that there will be someone who comes in all high and mighty talking about how Arthur is obviously a Sun... So I’m going to pre-empt that and talk about this... Again I could go with colour psychology... but actually I don’t think that’s necessary...

Instead, let’s talk about the role both kind of have in a group, the Sky is home, or rather the Sky is the “glue” of the group. And in KHR, that traditionally means that they are the leader... and Skies are all about acceptance... which again, as I pointed out in a prior breakdown, is a two-way street. Acceptance isn’t something that’s fully experienced unless it’s flowing from both... I mean, you can still accept someone without them accepting you, but it’s not quite as nice...

As for the Sun... Uh... mostly support? I mean, the Sun seems to be traditionally the healer. Also somewhat self-sacrificing, using themselves and their bodies to protect the group... Which okay, that fits I guess... but there is one other thing, the Sun is Energy. Mental or Physical, mind or body... which well, that’s something I guess... but ultimately...

I have to go with Arthur being a Sky... and it’s because of the glue thing... there’s just something about the way that the group is... and Arthur truly is the glue. He’s the one who keeps the group working if you think about it... and not just because he’s the mechanic making sure that the Scare-A-Van runs and works so that they can get to wherever the mystery really is... but because he does at least try to stop them from running right into things... even if he’s probably just as curious about things at times. He at least wants to play it safe...

I mean, generally that’s what people go with. He enjoys a good mystery, but would much prefer it if he wasn’t dragged into danger... And he wants the others to stay safe as well, to keep from running headlong into a ridiculously dangerous situation and getting hurt... One of my favourite little discussion/drabble pieces is this one, because well... think about it okay! Think about it...

Now as for the other traits associated with the bright orange of Sky flames well.. Communication, adventurous and funnily enough, optimism along with agreeableness... I might be weird about this, but I do view Arthur as an optimistic person, he might be the first to see how a situation could go wrong and have a generally pessimistic(which haha, pessimism is also an orange trait) of how a situation could go... but he also forces himself to look on the bright side and trust that things will get better. That his friends will come and save him when he gets in trouble, and that a solution can and will be found. Also you can’t argue about him being unadventurous without running into the wall of him still going on cases you know...

Communication, and agreeableness, maybe a bit weird, but Arthur knows social-foo, like any good introvert dragged into conversations. Also, I kind of think of him being good at debating things... because well you know. He’s probably had to before. But yeah.

Arthur’s a Sky, end of.

Secondary: Sun(Because that’s obvious you know).

Now, for the funnest part of this breakdown...

The other crossover, because you know what. I kind of lump them together because well, yeah. I mean, for crying out loud, I use the same tag for both of them, THybrid MSA... partially because it was sort of used first... but also because getting into MSA dragged me back into the whole Meddling Kids fandom... which yeah, aside Scooby Doo, this does count a few other series that I have been rewatching, and generally counting as part of the same continuity... Which yeah... So anyway, that’s why I keep the tag, among other reasons... I am debating changing it to something more fitting though, like THybrid Meddles, but eh...

I think I’ll keep my current tag, since it’s already been established... But who knows... I do have the tag replacer, and it’s only the matter of a small change...

That said, time for Mystery Inc. to get their flames talked about and explained.

Again, some will seem kind of obvious because of colour association, but I will be explaining it... since yeah...

Fredrick “Fred” Jones:

Alright, so Fred was actually the single hardest member to characterize. That’s mainly because with the way he is, I kind of initially went with Rain and didn’t think about it. But since I was keeping myself to a minor rule, Rain didn’t work. So I came back and actually thought about it... and thought, and thought. And the initial conclusion after all that thinking was that Fred is kind of bland and hard to figure out...

I mean, there’s a reason for that, but there is also a reason I initially went with Rain and was done... because it’s the simple solution and Fred being reliable wasn’t something that people could say was wrong... but it’s not right. Mostly because of a personal rule I set while working on this, but also because for all that Fred’s reliable, it’s not really central to him, and if we are associating Fred with blue, then he becomes a bit too passive... which yeah...

So what was the conclusion that I came to after eliminating Rain? Well, Sun.

Now wait a minute, I’m sure that there are some of you now staring at your screens and going what? But yeah, remember that I have a headcanon, Autism, Fred’s Autistic, at least to me. And energy is the thing that goes with Suns. Mental or Physical... and honestly Fred does show both, at least slightly... But anyway, my Autism Headcanon lead me to this, because his special interest is mainly Traps, and have you seen the traps he sets up? Even when they’re just the classic net, he’s good at them. Also aside traps, he definitely has at least a partial special interest in mysteries. I mean he’s the leader and all.

Honestly while he can be a bit scattered, he’s trying. And he is able to link things together when he gets all the pieces, and he thinks. Also, one of my favourite moments, the entire Beach Beastie movie. Like just seriously, I mean sure Fred’s kind of freaking out for a period of it, but well... Can’t say I blame him for that... I mean I know what it’s like to try and deny a special interest, it’s hard, and can be kind of painful on a mental level... Maybe not quite as bad as Fred was throughout the whole thing, but still... I feel it.

Also, on energy, there are two separate occasions that Fred plays vollyball against himself, at least that I can find and remember. (One of which I got help fully recalling, thanks @phantoms-lair!). She Sees Sea Monsters by the Seashore and Reef Grief!

Just... Energy to spare. Also, just wow! I kind of also think of this as a kind of Autism thing as well... because I’ve done some, similar things myself. It’s complicated... But anyway, yeah, Fred has energy to spare. Mental is obvious with the focus on his traps, the mysteries that they hunt out and solve, and I guess a little bit dedicated to the Mystery Machine... and Physical... well he likes getting out an about. And oh yeah, Fred definitely fits the other associations with yellow.

I mean seriously, he does. Maybe that’s also why he’s kind of bland most of the time... aside him being somewhat generically the ‘leader’ and well, a bit of a distracted easy-going oblivious nerd. He’s a precious boy.

Shaggy:

Author appeal makes me say sky!

Haha, but seriously. Shaggy actually does fit his colour in a weird way. So Lightning Shaggy, let’s talk about this.

I mean, obviously Shaggy isn’t really one who desires much. Not really, I mean he doesn’t have a real ambition according to the profiles. And he doesn’t really have any real goals in the show either... and yet. Yet! There is definitely a desire there. A good time with friends, to be safe and out of danger, and quite possibly to try every kind of food that he can. You know? Also, the desire to protect his friends is most definitely there, and not something that can be hidden.

"To draw damage to himself and away from the rest of the Family, serving as a lightning rod."

"The lightning; one that harshly strikes everything"

Those two quotes are both used in reference to characters who use Lightning Flames, in reference to the role that they take... and while the latter is not something that fits... the former definitely rings of Shaggy. I mean if there is one thing that Shaggy’s mostly consistent with it’s how willing he is to protect his friends, even if it puts him in some danger... I mean, it’s subtle, but you can kind of get the feeling that he would prefer to be the bait rather than anyone else. At least he knows he can deal with it.

Also, the things that I think really support this. Goblin King, Reluctant Werewolf, and Ghoul School... maybe not obvious, but they do have points. Also maybe I would add Phantosaur, although “Brave Shaggy” shows more about how he is more focused on protection than anything else...

But anyway... Guess that doesn’t really explain it. So yeah.

Okay, I suppose my biggest argument. Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get a Clue... I know, I know, generally that series isn’t counted in regular continuity... but I actually happen to like the series, and have a really, really big soft spot for it, because it was one of my first experiences with the series... and let me tell you. Shaggy in that series, shows his strengths when on his own... and yeah, he has desires that he shows... also my little idea of him using his mechanic skills to kit out the Mystery Machine... since he only mentions buying the extra stuff, not hiring anyone to do it... and Shaggy is smart like that.

But anyway...

Secondary: Sky(because gosh darn it, I am weak for the appeal of this, and Shaggy is the heart of the team, so there!)

Daphne Blake:

Cloud.

Just, Cloud.

Also, Daphne being such a cloud, is the main reason I didn’t go with Cloud for Lewis even if he is one... because seriously. S E R I O U S L Y! Seriously, Daphne is a Cloud, not ifs, buts or ors about it. Daphne is the independent cloud striking out on her own and refusing to be chained down. Now I’m sure that some of you will be going what, or how but here’s the thing. Daphne was always my favourite character growing up... and I was exposed to a mixture of Where Are You, What’s New and Scooby and Scrappy growing up, all mixed together... (there was also Get a Clue but that’s another story...) So yeah.

Also, Daphne is not just a pretty face, she’s stubborn, she’s bold, and of course she is the Team Mom, she’s the one who figures things out and finds the solution to problems... and also, she is a good feminine role model. Not scared to be a feminine girl, using her strengths regarding beauty products and the like to solve problems... and not caring about the whole what’s typical or anything about it.

And that’s awesome.

She takes nothing, well mostly. But yeah, Daphne is a Cloud, and she’s awesome for it!

Velma Dinkley:

Well, there’s only one flame left to dish out...

Storm.

Determination.

Freaking hell, I’m sure there are some who’re like really? But yeah, Velma’s the storm. And I can’t even explain everything, but yeah. Velma’s the science kid, and she’s arguably the most determined member of the gang. Arguably... I mean generally this was more by process of it being the only one left, but it does make sense.

I mean, for one thing in Franken-Creepy while she was a bit... uh insane she was ready to do anything to prove what she thought was real. Same in other situations. Once Velma has decided on something, she’s determined to do it. Determined to see it through to the end... and that’s not something that you can just brush off to the side.

Also, she dives into her research with a single minded determination that I can just appreciate... but yeah.

Secondary: Sun

Again, this is only my headcanon, and my interpretation of the characters, and if you disagree that is fine and I am perfectly down for hearing other opinions... also as a quick rundown of all the characters, here’s a bullet point list explaining them, and their flames with them labelled as Primary-Secondary just without the big long explanation to go with them...

Vivi: Rain-Storm

Lewis: Mist-Cloud

Arthur: Sky-Sun

Fred: Sun-Rain

Shaggy: Lightning-Sky

Daphne: Cloud-Mist

Velma: Storm-Sun

Like just... let me have this, dragons. So anyway... Guess I should explain who these dragons are... shouldn’t I? Because self-indulgent and fun and hey! I actually had these guys pre-MSA, but not really designed as much as they were, random possible dragon OCs for something but no real story or set design because I have no idea where I’m putting them... But anyway! Now they’re actually defined beyond dragon mother and daughter pair!

Also Vivi for a size reference in the first picture... with a pretty clear shot of Morcades’ design but...

Well she is kind of small.

Speaking of sizes, in dragon form, as in the form that they’re in in that first picture, Morcades is roughly 500cm tall, or 5 meters... She’s around 5 and a half meters long, from tip to tail, and her wingspan is 5.25 meters. From the tip of one to the other... And in human form she’s tall, 190cm tall. Also, clearly gangly and somewhat sharp looking... I wasn’t really expecting that when I drew her because welp. 

As for Chelinda, 90cm tall, with a length of 125cm, and a wingspan of 1 meter. In human form she’s more average, at 105cm tall, it’s just she’s not very good at staying “human” and staying hidden.

As for who they are and all that well.

So first of all there is Morcades, who is well. She's basically an overprotective mother figure. Also rather sly, sneaky, and she just kind of wants people to leave them be. Blend in. We're normal humans. But even disguised as humans dragons have a higher body temperature... so she's just like, the best for hugs and curling up and keeping warm with. She doesn't like unwanted contact though, and is liable to just... step back let person fall.

Also yeah, overprotective mother dragon. She doesn't like it when people mess with what she considers hers. Be it family(adopted or otherwise) and well... Yeah... who wants a dragon aunt? Also, yet more fuel for a specific cult to assume things... Although she isn't often home to see who she's "related" to. Although that's not something that matters too much. She's somewhere around 49-56 years old and has a single daughter, last remaining child, who is an adorable menace.

Speaking of which that would be 5-6 year old Chelinda. Very much a kid, very much a brat, but also very quick to grow attached and not good at the whole staying in human disguise to hide thing.

Basically tho they're dragons and awesome because dragons are awesome!

Also Morcades’ is an Earth dragon, while Chelinda is air/wind. But anyway, DRAGONS!

As for how they fit in well, it’s not like I’m subtle you know. They’re basically part of the Kingsmen family in my headcanon, giving a certain cult in my verse yet more fuel for their delusions. Not that Morcades and Chelinda are in or around Tempo often enough to really throw that fuel on the fire... Which is both good and bad. Good because Chelinda is still young enough that she doesn’t understand why she needs to pretend to be a regular human... thus the tail that’s showing. 

Anyway, other things to think of are well, don’t know how to calculate how much they’re supposed to weigh because there’s no easy formula to follow. So I’m not going to really try. But all dragons are warm, because they have air in their bodies, and kind of fly based on thermodynamics. Yeah, basically they’re filled with hot air.
