this one is Augustine towards Winnie to me. "you couldn't care less, for the people you're hurting, there's no excuse, no matter who can see or who you wanna seduce" is very "auggie thinking winnie is purposefully stealing his life from him in order to gain the favor for those around them" to me. also "you've ruined the color blue for me, I'm surrounded by a deep dark sea, you've lied to us and honestly, you've ruined the color blue for me" is pretty self explanatory to me but it very much reminds me of augustine being "haunted" by the blue during the snowstorm and just in general feeling disdain for stuff he used to associate with winnie

this one is so Winnie to me. "he looks like something that I'd see in a museum" very popular + good looking "and I could hurt him 'cause I know he wouldn't stop me" people pleaser/pushover winnie my beloved. he literally let augustine leave him for dead. "i've got a notion, there's no emotion, he's just an auto-response to the commotion" him and his stupid little happy mask. he really has trained himself to automatically play happy whenever things go wrong [looking at the bright side after seeing his own corpse]. overall just very him to me

3. Problems by Mother Mother

this one is, you guessed it, Augustine towards Winnie again. "you and me, we are not the same. I am a sinner, you are a saint" him idealizing winnie in his own mind and comparing himself to him, feeling as though winnie sees him as garbage. "I'm a loser, a disgrace (yeah), you're a beauty, a luminary in my face" seeing winnie as this idealic person, someone who never messes up, which Winnie isn't, but he convinces himself he is.

4. Partner in Crime by Madilyn Mei

finally a Winnie towards Auggie one!!! (this is like the 10th one i've done i had the playlist on shuffle </3) anyways! "when you're gone, I feel alone again" winnie being lonely even with his other friends, because augustine is the only one he can be truly himself around. "truly something must be wrong with me, to need you as much as I do" him needing augustine while augustine doesn't need him. "you do the talking, sew up my mouth if I can't keep it closed" kind of a stretch, but winnie canonically doesn't know when to shut up and constantly says too much about things augustine tells him in confidence, so that reminds me of this line. "left me hangin' at the station, but you'll be back for me soon" augustine leaving winnie at the bottom of the stairs. "I'm 'bout to die, but the thing on my mind seems to nearly be nothing but you" him following augustine into that cliff + him constantly proving he's constantly thinking about the brunette with stuff like the snowman. "you're slowly killing me, but please take your time" him being willing to be dragged around by augustine forever, if solely to stay by his side.

this is also Augustine (but bad ending! spicing it up!) to me. not gonna pull a LOT of specific lines because deadass they All Fit but just overarchingly his feelings as though Winnie is some perfect, angelic saint, while he's slowly falling into irrelevancy. "or am i just wishing I could be like you? that the people would see me, too, as a poet, and not just the muse?" is him feeling like Winnie is drawing his popularity *from* Augustine, using him as some sort of muse. "this event will be history, and I'll be great too. I don't want what you have; I wanna be you." is him killing winnie and replacing him. he's in blue in the bad ending. he's popular. he's liked. people don't see winnie, they see him. yeah this song is. ough. i could write an essay

6. Smokey Eyes by Lincoln

once again, Augustine towards Winnie to me. "are you feeling good? for now you're here with me. seems like we've waited long enough, for someone else to make us feel complete" their codependencyyyyyy <3 neither of them can exist without the other. "so help me make amends with all my friends, most other people are just dead ends, there's nothing worse than making friends." him and his "fight"/falling out with winnie, ending in him being a lone wolf and despising winnie for what he has. "and the worst thing about me is that I'm somewhere in between- I might miss you, but I'm still trying to get clean" his conflicting feelings about winnie. "I hope someday you learn to take your own advice" this one! is different! ☝this one is his younger version at his present self! if you'll remember, younger auggie was actually pretty emotionally intelligent!! the basis of the game is current augustine not following his own advice

this one is so Winnie to me <3 "feeling sick of myself, think i'll try to be someone else, can't be hard to paint a person in my head, create a version, the parallel" him and his maskinggggg. he is so 'i don't remember who I am anymore because I've been playing the part for so long' to me. "feel like a kid, i double tap my chest with my fist; i like you. say it back" him towards augustine and constantly wondering whether auggie actually likes him. also just in general the whole "sweet tooth for you" chorus is very him about auggie to me, he always has and always will have a soft spot for the man.

8. Kill All Your Friends by My Chemical Romance

this one is also bad ending Winnie and Augustine to me!!! "well you can hide a lot abut yourself, but honey, what're you gonna do?" feels like augustine towards winnie with his 'fake persona' he puts on to me. just in general the chorus with "cause we all wanna party when the funeral ends, and we all get together when we bury our friends" feels like augustine after the car crash, with his joy over winnie's death. "and you're walking away, and I will die in this place" is very winnie at the bottom of the stairs (both times!!) to me. "sometimes, you scrape and sink so low, i'm shocked at what you're capable of" is both of them at each other because they cannot communicate, with winnie being killed by augustine and augustine convincing himself winnie is stealing his life. yeah

9. Evelyn Evelyn by Evelyn Evelyn

oooooh this song is. so them. the most them maybe. "we grew up closer than most, closer than anything, closer than anything" them growing up attached at the hip. "at your side, I feel like a ghost" augustine ending up in winnie's shadow. "we grew up so very close, a parasite needs a host" winnie is the parasite in augustine's eyes, constantly leeching off of him. "just get away from me, please just stop touching me, you're always trying to be somebody else" augustine at winnie, trying to separate himself from him despite the two being intertwined beyond removal. okay next part i'm just gonna highlight who each line isto me. "well, you're only scared of me. but you never cared for me. why don't you let me free? 'cause you'd never dare to be. 'cause you never listen, you're always insisting, I'm just reminiscing (just stop reminiscing), I feel something missing, I just want you here with me (I just want my privacy), god can't we just get along? this one is Augustine to me. "remember when you took too much? I didn't mind being your crutch" augustine still wanting and missing winnie even when winnie takes far too much from him. "I loved you then, it's not the same. I don't like how things change" his fear of change that he has in my heart and also his reminiscence on how they used to be compared to now. not as much yapping for that one but yeah

11. People I Don't Like by UPSAHL

okay. look. hear me out. this one is Augustine being dragged to parties by Winnie, except neither of them actually wanna go. so its like. both of them? i don't have a lot of reasoning for this but in my mind winnie wants to be popular, so he goes to parties that he hates, and augustine originally goes with him because That's What They Do. they both hate it. hence the song. its both of them except they don't realize the other person feels the same way, augustine thinks winnie likes these things and winnie figures augustine must enjoy them if he keeps coming with.

12. Scrawny by Wallows

this one is Augustine and the way he feels as though he's falling behind to me. "used to be level with all my friends, still wear the same shoes I did back then" represents how he and winnie were once level but eventually winnie changed and he didn't. "I don't think they've ever been untied, I can't regret the things I don't try" represents his fear of failure and convincing himself someone better than him will win anyways. "I'd switch it up, but I don't like change, only content if things stay the same, don't care to watch the story unfold, hate feeling like i'm not in control" is his fear of being left behind and fear of things changing from how they once were. uh yeah

this one is Winnie to meeeeee <3 mostly because "you were the sun, I was the moon" as i am an auggie-sun winnie-moon truther (HE ONLY SHINES WITH LIGHT THATS NOT HIS OWN!!!) but uh yeah otherwise this song fits very well. thumbs up. its just now dawning on me how many songs I added to that damn playlist /silly /nm

this one is Winnie coded to me!! with the general mantra of no one noticing his struggles, along with "no one tried to read my eyes, no one but you" due to augustine being the only person who sees through winnie's facade of happiness. ALSO "come on, don't leave me, it can't be, that easy, babe" with winnie getting left at the stairs <3 also the continuous message of being lonely, because he doesn't have any real friends other than augustine

I'd kill for you, don't even start" which is his feelings of abandonment after 'winnie left him for other friends'. also "i'm hurting, i'm hurting, I wish you were dead. don't reach out for my hand, i'll stab you instead" with his tough exterior of 'well i don't need winnie anyways!!' even though he really does. and finally "you said you won't hurt me, now look what you did. i'll pretend I don't need no help, but I said I need you bad" with winnie accidentally hurting him by being unaware of things that crossed the line (BOUNDARIES AND COMMUNICATION PEOPLE!!!) and augustine still needing him

this one is Auggie to me but could also be Winnie I think. like "I don't need the world to see that I've been the best I can be" is soooo his inferiority issues and constantly feeling overshadowed by his perfect best friend. "i don't think I could stand to be where you don't see me" is him needing winnie but hating that he needs him. this one's a stretch but the end with the "autumn comes when you're not yet done with the summer passing by" is lowkey winnie moving to me?? idk lmao.

this one is once again Augustine to me, with Winnie not realizing when he's hurting him. not a bunch of lyrics to work with here, but right off the bat with "you've got me on a string, and you can't see the marks it leaves on me. it's not your fault, but I wish it was- I wish it was" ough. that's them. that's immediately them. winnie is unaware that hes hurting augustine with his actions, and auggie knows that, but he wants to hate him for it. followed up by "and now I want to leave, 'cause I can't breathe" is him finally panicking and leaving winnie at the bottom of those stairs, because winnie would've done the same to him, wouldn't he?

i think this one fits both of them? it could be either way to be honest. they both parallel each other in so many ways; they both see themselves in each other. it's hard not to be alike, when you've grown up together. "I never knew somebody like you" is them knowing each other better than anyone else. "maybe it's a blessing in disguise, (i see myself in you). i see my reflection in your eyes" is them being so intertwined they're essentially one.

this one is such a lackluster finale cuz i really don't have much LMAO. this one is Winnie to me. mostly the line "there's really no way of winnie (SOMEONE JUST POINTED THAT TYPO OUT BUT IRS TOO FUNNY TO DELETE LMAO), if in their eyes- you'll always be a dumb blond" with honestly the way people treat him in the fandom. he's smart!! he figured out their weird hallucination situation!! he's canonically top of his class!!! he is by no means stupid!!!! also i've always been a winnie sh truther so the pause between "cutting.... her beautiful blue hair off" always echoed that a little for me even though thats definitely a stretch. also i think cutting off blue hair could be a metaphor for him trying to fit in more, which makes the last segment with "and I guess I'll just miss her, even though she isn't even really gone, things are just different, ever since she cut her blue hair off" could mirror that with augustine not recognizing who winnie's become.
