“I guess that’s where we’re going to always disagree. From the things I’ve seen, eventually something always breaks or bends. You can say you believe in something again and again, but you don’t really know how bullshit it is until your life is on the line.” Dallas shrugs. “But that’s, ya know, my take on it. I’m almost jealous you think principles matter.” 

Threadd says hello! His fullsuit is finally finished! I still need to add some details on his leg.

She looked at the other person and then glanced from side to side. Clearly something had happened here, something violent, but there was no telling if they were the victim or the perpetrator. Either way, Dallas couldn’t help kneeling down to them. “Hey, uh, are you alive there? Do you like need to go to the hospital or something?” Normally she wouldn’t do this, but sometimes you can’t turn away from something like this. The world was cruel enough.

      There is an English saying that instantly springs to Dallas’s mind. “A fish out of water.” That’s what she feels like right now. This job is nothing like what she’s used to. Normally she’s the one that transfers the goods, not goes to get them, but there were people who she owed and this is what she needed to do in order to get out of the heat. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know. I think I’ve gotten a bit lost actually.” It’s a horrible lie, but Dallas frowns and lets her shoulders drop, trying to act as innocent as possible. 

The second that the words “Let’s take a break” were uttered, Dallas slide right on out of her chair. Beelining her way to the coffee table, she poured herself a cup and then proceeded to load up one of the flimsy paper plates with as much carbohydrates as she possibly could. Normally she would do anything and everything to avoid these types of things, but one too many brushes with the law had gotten a judge to rule that Dallas had to attend an alien support group. Something about having to be rehabilitated. Truthfully she was just glad that her lawyer had been able to lobby for that being something she could do, rather than do any jail time. Not that any of the charges could really be proven. But who’s counting. She started eating one of the treats while observing the others mill about the room. These people were all sad that they had landed on Earth and had fallen into trouble. Dallas on the other hand had walked right into trouble on her own. It certainly put a perspective on things. She was mostly keeping an eye on this Kara who had joined them. She had a lot to say about positivity and hope. Pretty words, but nothing like the Earth that Dallas had seen. 

It wasn’t often that she got to see people she actually liked in the city. Metropolis was always in such a hurry. Frankly everyone on this planet was in an annoyingly fast hurry. Dallas stretched. It was earlier in the morning then she usually got up, but she’d promised to do coffee with Sam. She wasn’t the kind of woman that Dallas usually got close with, but a few easy packages and then Sam swooping in to rescue Dallas from a very bad first date had solidified the woman as someone Dallas liked. Plus it didn’t hurt to have people with power on her side in the event that something went wrong. But she hoped that it wouldn’t come to that. There was more legitimate work out of Metropolis than other places Dallas had been. She grinned when she saw Sam. “I hope you are happy you’ve dragged me out of bed before 10. Anyone else in this damn place and I wouldn’t have budged.”
