it all felt like a dream. lucas couldn't think of a single reason audrey had let him back into her home, back into her life. there was a part of him that knew it would only be temporary; it would take him a thousand lifetimes to make up for everything he had put her through. still, he figured he should start somewhere. while she was at work, he made an attempt to attone for his indiscretions years prior.Â
he didn't have any money, that was for sure. he would have to make do with what he had in her home. the least he could do was clean, cook, and perhaps add a few romantic gestures here and there. hours (and a half a roll of paper towels) later, he had something he was confident in. dinner was made in the kitchen, and dozens of white, paper roses made a pathway for her to follow. he sat on the sofa, awaiting her return with a deep feeling of uneasiness. would she appreciate the gesture, or would she reject him?
he could barely sit still as he watched the front door slowly open. if he didn't love her anymore, why did he feel so nervous? "welcome home, beautiful," he softly said, smiling up at the woman who would perhaps always be the greatest love of his life.
