The Breach
Three hundred and sixty five days of the year, he felt strong. Powerful. Leading a team of agile soldiers had that sort of effect on a person. But then the first wall fell, dozens of devoted warriors falling with it.
Greyson didn't feel so powerful today.
He'd seen Titans before, outside of their haven during patrols but it was entirely different seeing them stomp all over the one place that felt comfortable. Safe. Seemed like it was all an illusion now, the walls giving them a false sense of security and the stillness for the past several years allowed the majority to forget about the threat beyond the stone.
"Come here. We're gonna go see your mom," he urged, picking up a small child in his arms and bringing him over to the woman calling his name outside one of the houses that was still in one piece. He let him go, told his mother where the rest of the citizens were headed and pointed her in the right direction before jumping back into the chaos.
"Aidan," he called out, joining his side in a hurry. "Ready to put that training to the test?" The titan he was looking at was so unfamiliar. They'd all started to blend together at one point. Greyson was used to the widened mouths and the lack of canines. But this one was smiling. "We'll be okay. I've seen you out there." He looked him dead in the eye, gave him an assuring nod.
