DaveJohnJadeRose, an AU in which Jade has been adopted by Dad who is in a poly relationship with Mom and Bro and they all have moved into a home together, and either awkward crushes happening or just first meeting each other.

The Egbert-Lalonde-Strider household is arranged as such:
- The adults share the master bedroom and bathroom downstairs. Nobody knows what happens in that room. Nobody /wants/ to know what happens in that room. This is an agreed-upon fact of awkward, psuedo-step-sibling-ship.
- The kitchen is also downstairs. The kitchen has two fridges. Only one of them contains swords at any given time. Unfortunately, which fridge is which is susceptible to change at Bro’s whims. Because Bro is Dave’s brother, he is the one assigned to fridge-checking duty.
- John’s Dad’s study is also downstairs. Nobody knows what happens in that room. Not even Mrs. Lalonde and Bro know what happens in that room. It is strictly Off Limits.
- Rose’s Mom’s Lab is just down the road, and nobody knows what goes on there either, even though Jade has begged, time and time again, if she can see. Mrs. Lalonde always winks and tells her “maybe when you’re eighteen,” and nobody is sure what that means because Rose always thought her mom was just a computer programmer.
- There’s also a computer room on the ground floor, but because all of the kids have their own laptops, it’s mostly Bro’s place. There’s another TV in there with game systems. The kids have to ask nicely if they want to use it. Only Rose has ever managed to convince him to allow her to play his XBox without doing chores first, and the only explanation the others can come up with is “blackmail.” (Rose refuses to share her secrets.)
- The boys share a room upstairs. They have a bunkbed because John thought it would be cool at the time, if he /had/ to share a room. Their walls are covered with a mix of movie posters and Dave’s photographs, and some often cover the other. John’s Little Monster poster has “seriously dude?” scrawled across it in red marker that he’s never been able to wash off, but he has yet to replace the poster either, so he keeps it taped up.
- Jade gets a room to herself, because she’s constantly doing experiments in there, and nobody else can be trusted to constantly know when to wear the proper safety equipment. The rest of the room is decorated with cartoons and plushies, and she keeps a few birthday drawings from Dave taped up in places of honor on her wall.
- Rose also gets a room to herself, by default, because there’s nobody else to room with. She’s fine with this, though she frequently goes to the boys’ room to perch on top of Dave’s bed and make wry comments at them as they attempt to do homework. Despite her visits, however, her room is well-lived in, with paper and sheets lying askew across the floor. Dave’s pictures also get a place of honor on her wall, though he’s not allowed in, so he never gets to find out.
- The four of them share a bathroom. Jade’s hair clogs the drains and she has a habit of forgetting her towels after showers, leading to multiple incidents of the boys covering their eyes in embarrassment as she walks out utterly nude from the bathroom. Rose is more composed, but that doesn’t stop her face from heating, just a bit, as she wishes Jade a good day. The bathroom also sees the boys’ first attempts at shaving, gleefully taught to them by Mr. Egbert, even as Bro stood at the doorway and guffawed.
- The observatory is the last room, and it’s their favorite. The adults leave them be up here, and they pile blankets and pillows to make a comfortable fort, and take turns using the telescope to name the stars and constellations. John names his after action movie heroes, Rose after her favorite authors. Dave names every single star “Ben Stiller,” and Jade alternates between animals and cartoon characters. Sometimes they stay there through the night, lying shoulder to shoulder, lulled to sleep by the sound of one another breathing.
