hounds tend to forget human language after a while, in the way people can lose their first language if they don't speak it on the regular. they only need to listen to their Handler's voice, not hold a conversation, and its discouraged for them to speak like a human anyway, which has led to hounds developing their own simplistic communication method consisting of body language and barking, mostly to show dominance or submission. while it serves little use in day-to-day life, being able to read each other's intentions on the field at a glance even through layers of reinforced steel is an asset

after all, weapons have little use for language outside of communicating violence

hounds that are weak and pathetic out of the mech are nice, but i want more hounds that are just as deadly inside and outside the mech too..... its a continuation of the Handler/hound relationship in some ways

your Handler has to trust in your conditioning that you won't simply crush him into paste upon your return to base. he has to trust that the command will stick when he says stop or attack. that the weapon in his hand won't misfire. and hounds are called hounds for their obedience, but for their capacity to harm, too. soldiers giving you a wide berth because you never have, but you could, and your Handler never flinching because he knows you would never slip your leash.

its about the high btw... when your Handler says give me everything and pumps you full of combat stims and sets you loose on a battlefield and you give it your all every time. and your mech is truly an extension of your body because it has to be if you want to dodge the missiles coming at you screaming or if you want to adapt to "seeing" 360° but its not human and neither have you been for a long time

pronged collars have so much potential

the only difference between reward and punishment is how hard your Handler pulls on the leash. walking with him and having to match his pace exactly because he's got the leash wrapped around his fist and walking faster or slower means the metal prongs digging into the soft skin of your neck

and this kind of restraint being reflected in your mech, too... getting sent on a mission and having a boundary hard coded into your system so it causes you pain if you go past it, or being caused pain if you try to fight without their permission....... you might be in a war machine, be a war machine, but the only power you get is what your Handler allows

getting a hound hooked on the high of a kill as part of its conditioning

its Handler's voice in its ear, guiding it over and over in simulations against a particularly skilled enemy or out of nasty situations after one, three, ten deaths so the final victory tastes even sweeter, until the hound learns to associate his voice to safety but, more importantly, the euphoric moment when all its efforts are realised

eventually, you'll get skilled, obedient hounds that'll start killing for a chance to hear their Handler's voice, unable to feel good without it

the new hound is getting prepped for surgery. Handler didnt really tell them what it was gonna be about, but apparently they signed a contract that waived that right away when they first started military school, so it worked out

Handler brought me to a military school to pick out the one with the most potential today and now he's expecting me to help train it since i'm the "first dog"

all i can do is beat them up in the training simulation and then beat them up in real life to give them the same injuries as their mech did, sorry...
