As she turned the next corner she ran straight into someone, almost falling flat on her back. Luckily, she had been able to catch herself. “Watch it!” she snapped, one hand resting on the wall. She adjusted her robes and looked up to see a familiar face.

Event 24 - And I Want it Painted Yellow!

17 April 1977 - Slytherin Common Room - 6am

The shouts of horror could practically be heard from the top of the seventh floor tower. When the Slytherins awoke, they found their common room to be covered covered head to toe in canary yellow and black. Someone had even gone as far as to paint a smiley face across the inside of their fireplace. It wasn’t difficult to guess which group of students were to blame. The Hufflepuffs.

17 April 1977 - Great Hall - Breakfast Time

The giggling still had not stopped by the time the Slytherins came up for breakfast, angry and grumbling over the bright yellow common room they were now living in. It felt nearly impossible to decide which Hufflepuffs were responsible, but it made sense. The Slytherin versus Hufflepuff game was coming up in May and the Hufflepuffs were certainly pumped up over it. 

17 April 1977 - Great Hall - End of Breakfast

Just as the Gryffindors were getting up to leave, an odorous yellow powder fell over their table, staining every individual Gryffindor nearby. A thunderous chant of Hufflepuff, Hufflepuff, Hufflepuff echoed throughout the Great Hall as the professors attempted to calm the houses.

17 April 1977 - Ravenclaw Tower - 9pm

It was time to turn in for the evening. The Great Hall had been mostly cleaned up (although a few Gryffindors were still trying to remove the yellow from their hair and faces). Everything seemed back to normal. However, the Ravenclaw tower would not open. As more and more Ravenclaws piled up outside of the entrance, a group of badgers suddenly burst forth from the entrance and went running into the crowd of screaming Ravenclaws. As chaos erupted for the last time of the day, the badgers disappeared into puffs of smoke. Hufflepuff had certainly won this house pride prank war.

   IT’S FEBRUARY 1977!

Ah, love. It is in the air! That isn’t always the best thing at Hogwarts, though. There is a lot more than chocolate and flowers when it comes to romancing someone. EVENT 15 - POLAR BEAR PLUNGE! - THE RESULTS

Hufflepuff

1. Intelligence: (unclaimed) It really shouldn’t have been that funny, but when the Hufflepuff put the letters together... it spelled out tassel. What should’ve been done in seriousness was now surrounded by a feat of giggles. The Hufflepuff was fortunate that it was the first challenge and no one was technically around to watch, but there were supposedly spectators everywhere. It took a while, but the word stables. It probably would have helped had the B-ice block not have slipped off the table at the beginning... (Time to completion: 12 minutes)

2. Determination: (Caradoc) Upon seeing his fellow Hufflepuff arrive, Caradoc knew that he was up. Determination didn’t seem to be that big of a struggle when put in perspective. However, the minute his bare hands touched the frozen tree, he realized it was going to be a much bigger task than anticipated. He hadn’t even considered the fact that he was going to have to take the baton with him, meaning carrying ice between his teeth. By the time he was finished, his hands were acting and his teeth were chattering. After making a quip about James probably taking off his shirt for the challenge, Caradoc began laughing and fell halfway down the tree. Impressively, he still held the icicle in his mouth and the piece of paper in his hand. After a signature grin, it was off to the green houses. (Time to completion: 17 minutes)

3. Strength: (Lucy) By the time the two arrived to Lucy, it was clear she was freezing. Not being able to use magic was awful in many ways. She could hardly keep her grip on the baton to begin chopping at the ice. When it became clear that it was going to take a while, Lucy sacrificed the heel of one of her shoes and chopped into the ice at an alarming speed to get the plastic bear. (Time to completion: 7 minutes)

4. Cooking: (Charity) Making snowcream should have been easy. There wasn’t really that much to it and it wasn’t the first time Charity had made food. However, the team felt it in their tired bones that they were falling behind. Through laughing, because what else would glorious, freezing cold Hufflepuffs do, they encouraged Charity to go faster. Distracted, she poured too much milk. By the time everyone had eaten their snowcream, they were all complaining of stomach aches. Milk + physical activity immediately after does not make a good match. However, they did all four manage to make it, combine hands with Ted Tonks, and slide into the icy cold water with screams and groans galore. (Time to completion: 13 minutes) 

Gryffindor

1. Intelligence: (Lily) The Q practically gave it away from the beginning. Quidditch pitch. What other location in the grounds had a Q to it? Lily practically cheered in a win, realizing she solved her puzzle in what she hoped was record time. Thirty seconds maybe? About halfway to the pitch, though, she realized the baton was missing. Finding ice in snow? It was not going to be easy. Thankfully, she was within eyesight of James and actually had to have him come over and help locate the baton. It took the other five and a half minutes, but the baton was finally located and James could start on his part.(Time to completion: 6 minutes)

2. Determination: (James) If anyone was almost too perfectly suited for determination. When the timer had started and they all ran off to their individual secret locations, James and Augustus were the first with shirts off. Once he realized he was climbing, he declared that it would give him better gripping. At one point, he slipped and everyone swore they could hear Lily scream across campus before James reminded her that he was perfectly capable. With the paper in his hand, he practically jumped off the tree to take off running to their next location. (Time to completion: 4 minutes)

3. Strength: (Peter) It was almost comical the way that Peter was looking up at the ice wall trying to determine where the polar bear was hiding and how in the world he was going to get the icicle to break through it. His first attempt brought back a plastic mouse, certain individuals finding that far more amusing than he. After a few more attempts, however, the polar bear was obtained and they were on their way again. (Time to completion: 8 minutes)

4. Cooking: (Remus) When the baton was finally passed to Remus, he was smart about it. He knew that an overbearing amount of milk would result in stomach aches for the four. He knew that too much snow would cause a horrible brain freeze. He seemed to spend more time explaining all of this to the group rather than actually cooking, prompting James to become an impromptu team leader and coach Remus on to actually completing the task. When it was finished, his snowcream was actually the most edible and appealing, but also took the longest to create. No time to savor! The four raced down to the water’s edge, basically having to drag one another along at this point to avoid tripping in the snow and losing time. Everyone, though, had to pause for a big laugh when Sirius and Marlene stood shivering butt naked at the top of the ice slide next to a rather awkward Dorcas. As Gryffindors do, they whooped and hollered the whole way down, Marlene’s shriek as they hit the water rivaling Lily’s when James slipped. (Time to completion: 18 minutes)

Ravenclaw

1. Intelligence: (Gladys) This was Gladys’s bag. Unscrambling was part of what she basically had to do all of the time in her Ancient Runes textbooks. If she wanted to be a cursebreaker, this would be a cinch. Most of her expected to look at the word and come up with an explanation in no time. However, when the thirty second mark had gone by, she was in complete panic mode (thanks perfectionism). She recalled the pep talk she was given before running to her position, however, and quickly unscrambled lockers (Time to completion: 1 minute)

2. Determination: (Augustus) In retrospect, he probably should not have been twirling the icicle like it was a real baton, showing off the fact that he was shirtless and assumed he could get up the tree in no time at all. It was like he had completely forgotten it was made of ice when he stuck it to his tongue, effectively sticking it in place. It took the better part of ten minutes to get the ice melted enough to get off of his tongue. By that point, his tongue was raw and he had to make up for lost time. Gladys grumbled something about how wearing a shirt might’ve made him warmer in the first place, but he was already halfway up the tree. (Time to completion: 18 minutes)

3. Strength: (Glenda) If anyone seemed prepared, it was Glenda. By the time they arrived, she had already known what she was going to do and had her hand held out for the baton. With a gleam in her eye, she croaked through the first verse of a working song, only needing that long to get the polar bear out. (Time to completion: 8 minutes)

4. Cooking: (Alice) Standing there shivering the entire time made seeing her teammates a relief. With the baton in one hand and a pile of snow in the other, Alice got to work making snowcream for everyone. It seemed that the cooking part of the task was a breeze for her. No one had any trouble until it was time to take off running. All moving at once, the entire group slipped and fell into the snow. It was a scramble to get up with the way that it seemed impossible to find one’s balance when one’s hand continued to sink deeper and deeper into the snow. When they finally got off again, it was a footrace to the finish. With Augustus shirtless, Glenda quickly stripped down to her underwear to match her teammate. Gladys and Alice were not going to comply with that new team rule. Dirk didn’t seem to want to participate in that part either as he joined them for the plunge. The water was cold enough without showing off everything to the crowd. (Time to completion: 19 minutes)

Slytherin

1. Intelligence: (Rita) It was sabotage and she was sure of it. One minute she almost had all of the letters in the correct order and the next minute, the table suddenly shifted and all of her letters were thrown into the snow. The time it took for her to collect all the letters again ate up precious time and froze her fingers. By the time she had unscrambled garden and was headed to the vegetable gardens, it felt like she had wasted too much time. (Time to completion: 25 minutes)

2. Determination: (Unclaimed) Knowing they were falling behind, the Slytherin scrambled up the branches at an alarming speed. Unfortunately, one of the branches cracked and the Slytherin ended up sliding down two more. Although not an audible crack, it was certain that the Slytherin’s arm had become inflamed and possibly stone bruised. Regardless of the pain, the Slytherin continued up and managed to get the paper. (Time to completion: 3 minutes)

3. Strength: (Amycus) He was only part of this thanks to Professor Slughorn demanding he learn team building skills after his art thief incident. However, Amycus was still Amycus. About two minutes into chopping at the ice, he basically leaned against the ice wall and decided to “take a break”. With the rest of his team threatening him within an inch of his life, he finally complied and found the polar bear, but not without plenty of grumbling and griping. (Time to completion: 13 minutes)

4. Cooking: (Andromeda) They were in a frenzy by the time they made it to Andromeda, worried they were certainly going to be the last to complete their tasks. The excitement made the bowl of sugar tip over, spilling out into the snow. Without wands, Andromeda had to carefully scoop up the snow that was touched by the sugar in an attempt to salvage it so the snowcream could still be created. Once done, the team took off running to the water at breakneck speed. They were only slowed when about to grab onto their other Slytherins and take the slide into the water. Rita was frozen. Her team was practically screaming at her, but it didn’t seem like she could hear a word of it. The girl did not move until Augustus yelled from his spot in the water. Whatever he said, it snapped her out of her trance and she went shaking all the way down the ice slide, but no one was convinced it was from the cold. (Time to completion: 7 minutes).

EVENT 13 - AU WEEK!

23 December 2017 - 03 January 2018

Beginning on 12:00am CST on Saturday, our roleplay will be taking a pause moving forward. This is both so that the roleplay as a whole can enjoy an alternative universe and so pressure is off during the holidays and we can all have a bunch of fun into the new year! 

For those of you new to this idea, an alternative universe week is when you are able to break away from what your character might normally do and assume a different story for your character. Read below for more information! At the end of reading all of this, if there are any questions, please ask! What I think makes sense might not be what actually makes sense.

There will be a post at midnight on Saturday letting you know starters are free to be posted!

Also, to give everyone the same information, I’d love for people to write in and give a brief 1-2 sentence explanation of where their character is in the two open AUs. For example, “Tilden Toots has survived the war as a neutral observer, but his marriage to Daisy Hookum did not last the stress of the war and he now is a Radio Talk Show host living alone in the outskirts of London.”

OOC INFORMATION!

There are three different ways to be involved in this AU week and a half. As a whole roleplay, there will be two scenarios you can post open starters to (this is your time for Happy Everyone Survives Time!) Then, you have the choice to post closed starters that you have planned with someone else. You can be involved in all three, two, or just one! The choice is yours. Read more below!

1. One group AU is starting in September of 1991. Harry Potter and the gang will be starting their first year of Hogwarts. Voldemort has been defeated as far as anyone knows. The night he went to murder the Potters, Lily and James’s intent to sacrifice themselves for Harry backfired on Voldemort same as it did in canon. After that moment, many of his followers were captured and sentenced to Azkaban. Where has your character been since that night? Was your character found at fault for following the Dark Lord? Did they manage to claim Imperius curse? Have they been living it up in some swanky job at the Ministry, or did the war ruin them? Is Hogwarts their new place of employment or do they have children attending? Endless possibilities! Come actually have happy future for once! (TL;DR: Everything is the same except Lily and James didn’t die, and yes, characters who may have died may still live, of course!) Please tag all starters with Thorns91. 

2. The second group AU is starting in September 1980, only a month after the downfall of Voldemort. In this AU, a large fight broke out between the Death Eaters and the Order. Heavy losses were taken on both sides. The group sacrifice had a chain reaction and as Voldemort attacked, a bright light appeared and he was no longer there. The suddenness of it all meant the Oder was able to defeat the Death Eaters swiftly, shocking everyone. The world, both magical and muggle, is still rebuilding. Names of Voldemort’s followers are still coming to lights. Those who fought in the Order and on the Order’s side have received Order of Merlin awards, but not everyone feels like they deserved it. Heavy losses were taken on both sides and everyone still needs to heal. Both in the fright of the height of the war as well as the joy of Voldemort’s downfall, engagements and weddings have been popping up left and right as well as news of pregnancies and other exciting events. How will you celebrate the downfall of the Dark Lord? (Once again, characters who died may live, etc) Please tag all starters with Thorns80.

3. This is not a group AU. This is your opportunity to do whatever AU you want. The main rule is that all of these starters have to be closed. So, anything you do here needs to be discussed with another player and just between you and that player (or you and a couple of players if you want a three/four/five way thread.) In other words, should you want to play out Antonin Dolohov and Dolores Umbridge as leaders of the free world, the Antonin and Dolores players would have to decide this on their own and make a closed starter for it that only the two of them can write. With these, there are no limits to what you can make the AU. Mermaids, werewolves, high school, childhood, New York City, Broadway, drug lords, military, and anything else you can think of. All I ask is that starters are pre-planned and closed since you can post open starters for the two group AUs that still stick to the main verse. Feel free to do this plotting via IM, OOC, inbox, whatever you find easiest. I don’t mind the OOC flooding with “Does anyone want to do a Star Wars AU?” post and letting multiple people reply!
