Here's my last recent picture of Perish! Just finished this one today. I'm a real sucker for unnecessary anatomical details in my characters, particularly Nightmares and other Underworld creatures: so of course, I had to make a long, drawn-out explanation for Perish's glowy back-lumps that I had originally just slapped onto her design because they looked neat. Based off the fat bodies found inside frogs and toads (because holy shit were those Bio dissections from last month cool, omg), Perish's fat bodies serve a very similar purpose. For one, she can sort of "consume" them during hibernation, or if she were ever to go a long period of time without food: Mogrins hibernate in the coldest weeks of Underworld winter, but not for nearly as long as human world bears, for example. Regardless, food is very scarce for this brief period of time, so they sleep until the hardiest plants can regrow themselves, and fluffier prey begins to re-emerge from their shelters. During hibernation, the fat bodies also insulate the Mogrin from the cold, helping them regulate a warm temperature. Even domestic Mogrins still hibernate for those weeks, so Thorex makes sure to set up a warm bed for Perish when the weather gets particularly bitter cold. As a domestic Mogrin, Perish eats anything and everything she can find, having never lost the instinct to take every opportunity to eat. Because of this, she's kinda pudgy, also related to Thorex spoiling her rotten with all sorts of good food. While wild Mogrin generally only have internal fat bodies packed in their sides, Perish has fairly large fat bodies growing along her back as well. Lastly, Perish's fat bodies make her buoyant, since fat is less dense than water and floats on the surface: this allows more well-fed Mogrins to dive underwater and hunt aquatic prey more efficiently than others, while being able to relax and quickly float to the surface to get a breath of air. ...sorry that was a lot to read, but congrats on making it to the end! I'd love to answer more questions about Perish, if anyone was curious: I think for now, though, I should go to bed.
