Had a dream where Lisa was transitioning and Coil was ??? Supportive ??? I think ??? Like he was being incredibly passive-agressive about it and somehow making it in to an opportunity for mindgames, but he did arrange for the whole thing. Then at the end Lisa shot him (as in canon, only it was it and not Taylor) with a final, "thanks for the drugs, old man." (Drugs as in medical drugs. HRT.)
Lisa also used it/its pronouns and was seemingly female both before and after being employed, my brain was confused on which direction it was transitioning in.
I'm genuinely curious how Coil's own schemes would have gone without Levi attacking the city. Obviously with the ABB gone he outed the E88 to clear the board - the 'Merchants' were a minor concern, leaving just his goons, the Undersiders and the Travellers.
Circus and Uber & Leet were probably part of his long term plan to 'kill' Coil, but his plan seems to have relied on becoming PRT Director and then get celebrated for 'pushing out' the Undersiders and Travellers, after they became big threats.
Maybe without Levi he doesn't have them carve out territories, but one assumes he was stockpiling those resources he had the teams hand out in their territory for long before Levi actually attacked.
So was he just waiting for a city-destroying crisis? Was he intending on creating one? Was his plan to unleash Echidna, had Levi not attacked and given him a perfect opening?
How Coil was able to preserve his secret identity despite his height has been an ongoing point of contention for wb scholars. Considering Thomas Calvert works exclusively with people who are more likely than the normal person to be familiar with the supervillains of Brockton Bay, how did none of them pick up on the fact that they were both the only 7 foot 7 motherfuckers in the city? Numerous possible explanations have been proposed (Earth Gimel having an absurdly tall mean height such that he wouldn't stick out as exceptional, Thomas Calvert never letting himself be seen at full height by always sitting down, etc.) the story generally accepted by the worm academic community is, of course, that either Coil or Calvert wears stilts to make that persona seem even taller.

And then I joined. Starting with the bank robbery, I pushed them to switch up tactics, catch the enemy off guard. If I’d never joined, what would have happened? Maybe the bank robbery wouldn’t have worked out, and one of them would have been picked off and arrested. Maybe they would have taken a different direction with the robbery.
It's a fair question, but as Taylor notes a few paragraphs down, Coil likely would have pressured them to do and be more. Coil was most interested in using the Undersiders as tools for his scheme to take over the city (in the weirdest fucking way possible, really, his master plan is just... confusing. Like, I grasp what it was, but why he decided that was the way he wanted to take over the city or... whatever that was is just... even for the bond villain knockoff that he is, that's just a weird master plan), so he'd never have let them stay regular thieves once he didn't need them.
I mean, Taylor doesn't show up, odds are decent they die to Lung. Even if they escape that first night, Lung is single-minded enough to keep going.
It does make me wonder what Coil's scheme would have been had Taylor not taken out Lung. Like, going by the fact that he had all of E88's names locked and ready to go when he fired them off, he probably was always planning to use that to help clear the board of E88 to clear the way for his patsies to take over the city, but what was his plan for ABB?
I can't believe he planned on Lung getting caught, Bakuda going nutbar and the whole system collapsing ontop of the ABB as a result. Too many things that he couldn't have planned for.
Anyway, I think the takeway is that without Taylor, the Undersiders were probably doomed to die as disposable patsies on Coil's path to conquest, but on the off chance they'd survived long enough without her, they end up mostly the same as in canon, just without turning on Coil, probably. (Tattletale ends up his drugged up slave in the end, presumably)
So in this case, Taylor, don't go blaming yourself.
I just finished Deputy Commander, and I gotta admit, despite myself, I kind of feel bad for Calvert that Taylor of all people gets the Deputy Director gig over him.
He schemes this all so well and just... Piggot will just not give him a fucking inch or a moment of recognition. I fully understand why he spends a throwaway timeline just fucking lunging at Taylor to try and kill her.
