Riggots - In Joke
Oct 30th 2015 (Antipop Records)
Harder, fitter, faster and more productive. Super-charged screamo-punk-hard rock-metal with a mathy twist. It’s a clusterf**k of primal energy. 30 minutes of gut wrenching screams interspersed with melancholic interludes.
We [Antipop] are VERY happy to be working closely with a new band that have been making mini-tidal waves with their nuclear live performances in recent years. Agreeing to release a record you have never heard is a massive leap of faith for a label.Â
Rob Fairhurst's studio and live sound background didn't leave much doubt that 'In Joke' would be done right. We saw the potential of this band, far more aggressive and diverse than the comparisons that have been drawn to Riggots unique approach. More Dillinger Escape Plan than Drenge. More like The Exploited than Slaves. More like Black Sabbath than Royal Blood. You get the picture. Riggots don't sound like all those other two-piece bands. They don’t sound like a band from Wigan, England, either. (The small town between Liverpool and Manchester, famous for it's pies and Rugby League.) That northern tinge to the vocals can’t be mistaken, however.Â
Quite simply, Riggots is the band you play to your Mother when you want her out the room. Aggressive, fast & loud. Slam.
Lyrics bordering on South Park-style humour. Inappropriate banter and an unusual brotherly bond between Rob Fairhurst (drums) and Martin Battle (guitar & vocals) is possibly where the album title comes from. At a gig it can sometimes be like watching a dinner table argument, without the flying food. The audience is the giggling sibling, watching and trying to follow the In Joke.Â
When the music does the talking let mosh pits rule! This album is the beginning of the Riggots revolution. The Riggolution!
