The study was only intended to be an exploratory study, for which the sample size and methods were perfectly suited (you wanna establish a basic link to show an areas worth investigating before spending a lot of time and resources doing a proper fancy study. A small sample size and a basic correlation are fine for that). People are blowing it way out of proportion acting like it’s groundbreaking, and because of that people are acting like it’s useless when they look at it and see it’s not groundbreaking. It was never meant to be groundbreaking, it was meant to show a basic link between something and it did. Now the next part is to do a few more studies with better methods and bigger sample sizes which are the ones that will (hopefully) identify the role of BChE in some SIDS cases and if testing for it can be used to screen for those at a higher risk.
