he’d go over the top
huge tree
trees
more than one obviously
all decorated
in whatever theme he’d decided on that year
he’d have christmas cookies around whenever the staff would actually okay okay with baking them
he tried to get them to bake in mid november
they thought it was way too early
so he agreed
reluctantly
he decorated one tree himself
the most important
the one the two of you kept in the corner of your room
the two of you would decorate it yourself
not caring about the theme
just pure
almost childish joy
in the tradition of decorating with no pattern or specification
as it got closer to christmas
you’d find him looking at the gifts you’d placed under your tree
“tom what are you doing”
“uh nothing love”
he was scrambling to stand up
“you have to wait Tom”
“i know”
christmas day
he’d let everyone have the day off
on the one condition that they all ate dinner together
which none of the staff would deny
tom was never rude to them
neither were you
you both knew all of them

you and tom would head upstairs
he’d seem kind of antsy
“tom you can open the presents now”
“no love it’s alright i want to be here with you”
“tom. i know you want to. just open them”
wrapping paper was everywhere within seconds
