As far as many Polynesians, including myself, are concerned, Polynesian cultures are pretty much the same across the board. They're not completely interchangeable, but we're not exactly separate entities, either. There's some cultural variation per each set of islands, but the core culture is almost exactly the same on all of them.
Oh, interesting! I’ve seen at least one Polynesian person express the contrary in regards to Moana, so it seems that opinions are mixed even within the community - which, shouldn’t be surprising, I suppose.
I still think it would be neat if people who loved Moana take the time to learn a little more about the cultural variations, but that’s an interesting sense of cultural identity. Thank you for the response!
