Still Not Dead

Hey guys. Been a minute, huh? I'll just get to the point: real life's been stressful as of late, and it's kept me quite occupied as a result. I'm finding time to check in when and where I can, but I don't have much opportunity or drive for roleplaying. I still plan to keep at it though, for as long as can, so long as my partners are still willing.

Big thanks to @songofsilentechoes and @qadira-yordle for waiting so long. I'm hoping to get to your RP's ideally sometime next week guys. My next book is soon to be published, so that should ideally open up a little more time to finally reply to what I owe.

The Sealing Sarcophagus

Long ago, the empire of Shurima was beset by a raging inferno. None know from whence it came, but all were certain of one thing: the fire was alive, and it hungered. The screams of those it reduced to ash served as nourishment to keep the flames burning strong. Indeed, this was no mere blaze, but a demon of the elements.

The Ascended, those appointed with the divine task of protecting their empire, stepped forth to combat the beast. However, for all their sacred might and enlightened knowledge, the god-warriors found their adversary equal parts cunning and ferocious. More than that, it used the terror of mortals to empower itself.

Though the Ascended wielded weapons of legendary power, their blows could do little to cleave fire itself. Their failure to slay the beast only wrought greater terror from the mortals they protected, which in turn further empowered the best. In time, the creature came to be known as Tybaulk: Pain That Laughs.

Realizing that brute force would not be enough to best this adversary, the Ascended instead turned their efforts toward containing Tybaulk. Through ancient arcane rites, they constructed a special stone sarcophagus meant to contain the soul rather than the body. Though unremarkable in its appearance, the sarcophagus boasted a myriad of curses that weakened the essence of any leaving being contained within.

With the sarcophagus completed, all that remained was to lure Tybaulk into it. The Ascended banded together to face the demon once again, wielding their combined might and magic to weaken the beast. When it attempted to flee, the Ascended sprang their trap, opening the sarcophagus wide.

The fleeing demon barreled right into the stone prison, unaware of its true nature until it was too late. The lid was such, and a potent seal was placed upon the sarcophagus's surface to prevent it from opening. Though Tybaulk raged within, its flames could not melt the stone nor surpass the potency of the curses...

The demon's reign of terror ended at last, and the sarcophagus was hidden away so that it could never be opened again. Or at least, that was the intent...

Even if you’re not writing together right now…let your RP mutuals know that you see them and appreciate them. Liking a HC or OOC post takes zero effort…but it can greatly uplift your partner’s experience on the dash to see their friends and partners taking an interest. It takes next to no time to pick out a meme option to drop into a your partner’s inbox, but will surely make them happy and may kindle unexpected interactions between your muses.

Little gestures sustain the hobby by making folks feel wanted and appreciated. And people who show frequent, small kindnesses to their mutuals will usually see it returned to them in equal measure.

You know, it's kind of funny. There was a time when I actively avoided interacting with blogs that I felt were too silly. It's not that I was against more light-hearted muses or interactions, but Xerath is and always has been an extremely serious character. Even prior to his story reboot, the Magus just didn't feel like the sort of muse who would mesh well with gags and comedy relief.

That still remains true, but I suppose with the state of League RP community as it is now, I've grown more comfortable with the idea of involving Xerath with shenanigans. It's hard to justify doing long-term, as the Magus still has a very limited patience for that sort of thing, but I'm not as adverse to it as I once was.))

Qadira realized Xerath was going to do something strong. This made her worrying about Ga Ram. But Ga Ram needed some kind of displine. And she trusted Xerath. "Ok... But please don't be too harsh on him..." Qadira left the room.

This made Ga Ram scared. He didn't want to admit it, but he knew Xerath is way stronger than him. Ga Ram didn't realize, but he got cold feet. "Wha... What are you up to! Go... Go away!" He slowly walked away from Xerath. Then he ran outside.

Once Qadira was gone, Xerath wasted little time. Ga Ram tried to run, but the Magus was faster. The used his magic to stop the yordle in his tracks, then forced Ga Ram to face him. "Look upon me, and know your place."

Suddenly, the sarcophagus burst open, revealing Xerath's true form. Azure light poured forth, and as Ga Ram stared, he would feel his will to resist growing weaker. Xerath could only do this for a few seconds, but that was more than enough.

The sarcophagus snapped back into place and the light faded. However, Ga Ram should still be under the Magus's control, as evidenced by the blue light in his eyes...

Having anticipated every eventuality, Xerath created a barrier to try and keep the poros at bay. He would allow nothing to diminish the grandeur of his grand return!

Noelle adjusts her hood and follows the magus and his entourage. This didn't feel out of the ordinary, so perhaps this wasn't an unusual occurrence.

Of course, she hadn't been expecting the creature. It seemed more like something she would avoid in her travels for her own safety, rather than something to ride, but it seemed....if not docile, then cowed.

She climbs her way onto the beast's back, scrabbling a little, silently, against it's scales. It was quite large in comparison to the short woman, and she looked a bit odd in the saddle. The small mage was unaccustomed to riding.

"If you say so, sir." Noelle replied, holding the reigns of the beast tightly. She didn't want to risk her safety in the mountains...or if the beast decided she wasn't a worthwhile rider.

Xerath watched in silence as Noelle awkwardly mounted the beast. He didn't usually make Baccai for this purpose, but then, everything about this whole affair was unusual. Such lengths he was going to, all for the gamble that this woman and the forces tied to her may prove useful in the long-term... But then, working in the long-term was what the Magus did best. That, and his sheer power, was what set him apart from lesser Ascended...

Once Noelle was properly mounted, the Magus turned and began the journey toward Mount Targon. Its majesty was evident even to mortal onlookers, though of course, Xerath could perceive the magics surrounding it far better than most. Even for a being such as himself, the energies of Targon were almost blinding... And if not for its irksome 'guardians,' it would be his to claim.

Oh well. Someday. For now, he only had to travel partway up the mountain to find what he and Noelle sought.

Once she was mounted properly, and the entourage was moving, Noelle traveled well. She handled her own needs, and tried to be responsible with the beast.

She had been to targon once before. Not to the peak, obviously. The heights of Mt. Targon itself wasn't for mortals like her. But she had seen some of the flocks of creatures, like the stellacorn, in the highlands.

But she hadn't considered that the lead would point there. She'd assumed it was some Shuriman ruins somewhere, but the exact reading was overridden by great power. But the Magus seemed to be onto something. It would be wise to follow his lead and see where his arcane understanding led.

Xerath continued onward, making his way ever-closer to the Celestial Mountain. He did his best to avoid any settlements near the foot of the mountain, if only to avoid unnecessary complications early on into the journey. It helped that he and his followers could simply elevate themselves, not needing to follow more traditional pathways. The baccai, too, could scale Targon's surface well enough to keep up.

Of course, it wasn't long before the first inevitable confrontation occurred. Xerath continued to follow the trail his magic indicated, but there was a Solari village up ahead. The Magus turned back to face Noelle.

"The path ahead is occupied by the sun's faithful. Conflict may be inevitable..." It seemed only fair to warn her, so she could brace herself...

In the far reaches of the Shuriman Desert, energy swells and crackles. The land and sky alike tremble before this maelstrom of power, accompanied by a declaration that shatters the silence.

"I return."

Qadira laughed. "Yes, he is an idiot, isn't he? He thinks he is so smart, but all he does is making troubles. But he really is smart in math. And his specialty is the encryption. Simply, his seal is almost unbreakable. No matter how strong the mage is."

But suddenly Qadira changed her face expression. "But Ga Ram is a trickster. You probably don't want to put eyes away from him. Otherwise he might stab you in the back."

A mathematician, was he? A valuable skillset, albeit one wasted on such a fool... "Hmph. I suppose I shall have to test his abilities for myself." Xerath had far more than just magic at his disposal, after-all. He had once studied many subjects, albeit illegally, in his younger years...

The Magus called upon one of his guards. "Bring the other yordle here, and ensure he remains bound." The guards bowed and did as they were told, going to retrieve Garam from his cell. Xerath then looked back to Qadira. "I trust you will do your part in monitoring him?"

"Of course! If he acts suspiciously, I will crush his little head with the Key!" Qadira said while tapping the Key in her hand. She always wanted to do that.

Ga Ram was dragged to them. "Let me go! You imbecile! I can walk by myself!" Ga Ram shouted at Xerath's guards. Ga Ram was still full of his ego, he thought he should be treated as a noble yordle. And this made Qadira slap her face.

"Ugh, he's still full of himself. Xerath. Is there any way to reduce his ego? I really wish someone teach him a lesson." Qadira asked to Xerath.

Xerath was honestly a little surprise to hear Qadira threaten such an act of violence. He wondered how serious she was and if she could follow through with it. Unfortunately, Ga Ram still had had potential utility, so they couldn't dispose of him just yet...

However, when the white-capped yordle was brought in, he was still acting as foolishly as ever. Just as Qadira questioned if there was a way to teach him a lesson, the Magus hovered closer to Ga Ram. "There is indeed. I had thought he would come around of his own accord, but I see now I should have simply done this from the start."

Xerath glanced back at Qadira. "I would advise you leave the room, Qadira. I will call for you when it is safe to return."

Then, an idea came to the Magus. "...I believe there are Rakkoran soldiers in desperate need of your... Affections. Perhaps you should scour the lower levels of the mountain to assist them."
