(1/3) I study social work in Sweden, and I've heard the Norwegian system is quite similar to ours. We do 30 credits/semester and a course would be either 7,5, 15 or 30 credits, with the larger ones split up into smaller "parts". We usually have one assignment (essay) per 7,5 credits, and some seminars or smaller (like 1 page) assignments as well. Usually it's 10 or so class hours and the rest is independent study (supposed to be 40 h/week in total).
However for natural sciences there's usually more class + lab hours, smaller assignments and group projects (I have a couple of friends who study biochemistry, this is what they've told me haha). As for grading, we use a scale of one fail grade (U) and two pass grades (G and VG), but it might be different in other disciplines. I think Norway uses the A-F scale but I'm not sure. We only have to get G to receive full credit, but you need full credit to officially finish your course. Usually it's not that hard getting a G, but if you fail you can just redo the exam until you pass it. A higher grade doesn't really matter on most programmes, the only one I know of where it matters is law (and sometimes if you want to do a Masters after). But it might be different in Norway or for natural sciences, I actually don't know haha. (sorry this is very long đ ) Will you be doing the course in Norwegian or English? Good luck, I hope it goes well and that you enjoy Norway!!
thank you for your message!! also your system sounds so nice :â) I do think the norwegian system is A-F. and my classes will be in english (my norwegian is barely passable sdfjfsddfs). I do have labs for my biology course but thereâs actually only a few which is interesting. thank you !!:)
