majin was once again running late, thirty minutes late to be exact and she was sure that she was going to lose her job if she didn’t arrive in the next 10 minutes. yet, it wasn’t really her fault as there really wasn’t any space available for her to fit her car in. but, right as a smaller car than her was about to un-park she stopped behind it waited for it to leave and parked her own in such a way that the back of her car wasn’t even one inch away from the car behind. she was pretty sure that she had also bumped it in the process of parking but she didn’t need to worry about such details, she would finish soon and leave and the owner of the car wouldn’t find her. after stepping out of the car she noticed that the car had some space behind it and so whoever the driver was, would be able to leave without an issue.

however, as her calculations were off once again, majin ended up staying longer at work and so by the time she had returned to her car she had noticed that someone had parked very close to the back side of the car she had done the same thing to but from the front. “i hope he isn’t here.” she didn’t see him, she couldn’t have seen him because she went directly to her car door ready to open it and leave when she heard a deep voice shouting. were they shouting to her? yes? no? she turned around to check. “what’s wrong?”

minjae observed his father as he neared him. time had stopped just like it always did whenever he visited. the world had turned to a scale of grey and coldness seeped into the space created. the son of death remained still, though, after all, the son of death was not meant to show any weakness –or emotion of fear.

❝ it is time for you to learn more about the world of the dead, ❞ his father murmured as he took a seat next to him, one leg crossed over the other one.

his father still had the same vessel he always displayed whenever he visited Earth. it was the image of the man his mother had known him for: blond hair, striking blue eyes, soft, sunkissed skin. the only thing they had in common was the quiet demeanor they shared along with the secret curiosity that sometimes slipped from their noticed and showed in the way they looked at things: with naiveté and tender candor.

minjae’s heart stopped for a second. twenty five years had passed since his powers had awoken. his touch was not mortal yet, but the slumber he could create was becoming deeper and deeper. so it meant his time as a human was coming to an end. inwardly, he felt something inside him breaking. perhaps, it was the dreams he had for the human part he never got to taste after all.

❝ his name is gwi, i will introduce you to him now. ❞ 

minjae pursed his lips as he closed his eyes in resignation. in no more than an instant, he was no longer in the little quaint café he frequented in seoul. now, he stood in the lobby of an antique residence. the glow of warm light made everything look softer than it probably was. 

❝ gwi, ❞ his father called. ❝ this is my son, minjae. ❞

minjae turned to look at the person he had only noticed now. surprise caught him off guard though. that man had no life clock hovering above him. feeling his father’s gaze over his neck, minjae snapped out of his thoughts and bowed.

❝ i am lee minjae, pleased to meet you. ❞ 

     It was not that she could tell a lot from one text, but there was something that wasn’t quite right in the way Gwi had answered her. Perhaps it was all in her head, but for someone who was about to get married, he didn’t seem that thrilled with the idea. Even when Minha pointed out how wonderful the designs of Leo and the rest of the Acacia staff were, he didn’t seem phased. Could it be that he was having trouble with his soon-to-be wife? Ah, it seems that merfolk and mankind are not so different after all.
