Hugs   are   not   usually   his   thing   ,   as   he   very   seldom   shows   affection   in   those   sorts   of   ways   ,   but   there   is   such   despair   on   her   face   that   he   is   all   manner   of   close   to   offering   comfort   this   time   .The   rational   side   of   his   brain   that   isn't   filled   to   the   brim   with   rum   enables   him   to   make   this   conscious   decision   ,   reaching   his   arms   out   and   taking   a   single   step   forward   ,   inviting   her   into   an   embrace   .   Jack   clears   his   throat   to   cast   away   some   of   the   discomfort   he   feels   in   showing   this   particular   emotion   ,   but   it   passes   as   swiftly   as   it   comes   along   ,   mostly   because   the   years   have   softened   him   a   little   bit   .   ❝   What's   the   problem   ,   love   ?   What   ghastly   thing   is   troublin'   that   pretty   head   of   yours   ?   ❞

      ❛  𝐈  𝐀𝐏𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐈𝐙𝐄   ,  but  i  can’t  talk  right  now  ,  ❜  rose  says  ,  carefully  trying  to  dodge  around  the  underclassman  who  seemed  to  be  garnering  for  her  attention  .  as  usual  ,  she  is  careful  not  to  get  too  close  to  her  ,  for  fear  of  a  secret  being  revealed  .  overenthusiastic  students  were  always  the  hardest  to  avoid  ,  but  usually  her  stone  cold  act  worked  well  .  ❛  i  have  no  interest  .  please  ,  leave  me  alone  .  ❜

“The red panda is my daughter” Ming explained, turning her full attention to this one young and  energetic member of the tour group. She was the only one who hadn’t wandered off to the gift shop and was still able to see her Mei-Mei posing for photos with one of her friends working the camera. “It’s a....gift that the women in our family have. From the Gods and our ancestor. Mei-Mei’s just the only one who uses it” As if on cue her daughter struck a dramatic pose for the camera. “You’re welcome to have a picture if you like?”

It was not only the shape of her new ‘amulet’ which was awful-- why could that man, that local shaman, not have found something else? Why did he think something so important, so powerful and so connected to her ancestors, could be kept in something shaped like that? Everyone knew that four was absolutely the worst number-- but it was also flimsy. Her jade bracelet had never fallen off her wrist, but this trinket of a necklace snapped open at the slightest pressure. 

She cursed under her breath when it fell to the floor, and bounced along the ground; she was only grateful that the ugly thing was not easily breakable.
