Gifts for @themarquisofdorks, @thetransalien, and @motherofallsharks for being such a great Boxtrolls Squad. A bold attempt at the Laika Kids looking up at a star, and Old Joe the Fence Spider from The Muppet Christmas Carol, one of my favorite versions of the classic Dickens story.

A drawing I made for @motherofallsharks, @themarquisofdorks, and @thetransalien, the original Boxtrolls Squad. I know some people don't like my generation, considering us complainers and whiners, so I'm going to try and explain my current state of mind as calmly as possible: Hello, my name is Lucy, and I'm scared of Laika Studios. I've been very much down in the dumps lately. It actually happened yesterday after learning that Laika's Universal exhibition was coming back to Universal Studios Hollywood. I would miss it again because I live too far away from Universal City, CA. I was then reminded of my squad members, and how much we'd all like to work for Laika someday. This made me feel low. My friends are talented, hardworking people, and though I'm the oldest, I hardly have much animation experience (none of stop motion) and only a little film experience. I feel so inadequate that it's actually kind of intimidating, and I know I shouldn't have to feel this way. I'm scared that while 3/4 of the Boxtrolls Squad are living in Oregon, living their dream, I'm going to be left behind. I don't want to be left behind. I want to be included. I want to work hard, because I want to show Laika that I care. I need to save money for alot of things in the future, and it looks like more experience in art and film is one of those things. Maybe someday, the 4 of us can hang out and get lunch or meet up at a Con or something, that way I don't feel so disconnected. I don't mean to sound whiny or complaining, but these things have been on my heart all day and it hurts not being able to talk about it for fear of what may come. The drawing was partly inspired by one of the many drawings Nico has made of the Laika kids. God bless him and Laika too.

Beetle is a trusty companion, as is this vest, inspired by him. Made from chiffon and cotton, it’s a perfect add on to most shirts and pants, just like Beetle with Monkey and Kubo. The triangular padding match his hard insect inspired armor and comes with inner pockets to keep things safe, just as Beetle tries to keep Kubo safe.
