A Click And A Bang:My muse accidentally killing yours.

“Babe, I’m sorry everything’s hectic at the moment.” Karuna turned to gaze at her girlfriend riding shotgun. The vehicles issued to the police force were even better now that Future Industries had sent out new designs and models.“I know it’s affecting you too. I…” The officer sighed, focusing again on the road ahead of her. “I think after this I’m throwing in the towel.” It was a decision the young woman had been debating for a long while. She loved and hated her job after all.

The two were cruising downtown in one of the police cars. The city lights looked spectacular against the contrasting darkness of the night. This night, however, Karuna barely took note of the magical atmosphere. She was stressed, tired, frustrated and beat. Not even the soothing sound of the engine could help ease her mind.

“No, don’t quit.” Hana finally shook her head. “You’re doing your job. You’re doing what’s right. But they have you running around like a maniac-all the officers!”

“We’re low staffed right now.” Karuna sighed under her breath.

“But it’s getting ridiculous. You’re serving the city but they can’t expect you to be at their beck and call all day every day. Their officers have lives too. Can’t they outsource more people?” The grey eyed girl agreed very much with the other earth-bender, but unfortunately, the police force didn’t exactly see it their way. “Honey, we were supposed to go to dinner tonight.” Karuna glanced down at the wheel for a moment, feeling guilty. Her police work often disrupted their personal lives. “And it’s not the first time you’ve had to drop your plans to go back on duty. I hardly see you anymore and when I do, you’re beat to hell and covered in bruises.” The light turned red and the officer applied pressure to the breaks. “There are some nights where I’m scared to death that someone else will come home from the station to tell me something happened.” Karuna exhaled deeply.

“I’m sorry.” Was all the dual-bender could say, turning her head to the right once more Another apology after another. “I hate doing this to you, but this comes with the job. I can’t expect not to get hurt. If it means more people are safe, then it’s what I have to do.” Out of the corner of her eye, she could see her lover prop her chin up and lean against her side of the car. She hated to see Hana frown. “I promise I’m going to make it up to you.” Karuna continued. “I’ll talk with Lin and Saikhan this week. See if I can maybe take some time off.” This seemed to make the green eyed girl smile, and Karuna grinned as well.

The light became green again and Karuna accelerated, turning the vehicle left. “We can go to the beach like you wanted,” She suggested. “Maybe I can rent a Sky Bison so we can travel out of the city. Maybe Kyoshi Island, Ba Sing Se, or O-” The young woman glanced in her rear view mirror and did a double take. “Oh shit!” She exclaimed, pressing harder on the gas. In the mirror, she had seen a large, menacing truck begin to pull closer. It wasn’t for loading or docking. It was a Triad mobile.

Shit! Not now! Karuna had little time to think. It was only a matter of time before her dues would catch up to her. “Hang on!” She instructed her girlfriend. The bender raced forward, cutting off several other cars on the road while getting beeped at angrily. Eventually, she made a hard right and pulled up the parking break near the gear shift. This design was made by Asami Sato herself; by executing the brake during a turn, a person could drift around corners and turns, though it was a dangerous maneuver. The grey eyed girl’s goal was to get away from these creeps. Keeping Hana out of this was the plan- if she could. The Triads were her blunder-her mistake and no one elses. She turned the wheel around hard, causing the car to spin nearly out of control. She had to keep Hana safe, but those goons would be after them forever if she didn’t end things now. The car now faced the oncoming truck.

“Stay in here.” Karuna instructed before quickly unbuckling and exited the vehicle. The shady truck soon came to a halt twenty yards away in the back alley. The front lights went out, and Karuna took a fighting stance. Two gang members emerged; an earth-bender and a fire-bender. The young officer wasn’t worried- she’d taken on multiple foes at once. The brunette dodged a flat, metal plane heading towards her head like a frisbee and crouched low to the ground. After rising back to her feet, she sent a plume of her own at the fire-bender and crescent kicked a chunk of the ground at the earth Triad. He was lanky for an earth-bender and the bolder knocked the wind out of him, sending him flying past the truck. Orange flames nearly set her uniform on fire. Karuna turned sideways so that only the edges of the jacket were singed. She threw quick strikes and ridge-hands at the fire-bender, taking him down with a hit to the temple. The officer reached into her back pocket for her cuffs when her girlfriend’s voice pierced through the night air.

“Karuna!” The grey eyed bender looked in the direction of the voice, seeing Hana outside of the police car. She raised a hand at her girlfriend, signaling for her to stay back. She then whirled around in the direction of her lover’s gaze to face an oncoming Triad. Karuna soon realized must have jumped from the top of the truck! His attack pattern didn’t matter anyway because he had caught her off guard and had the advantage at the moment. There was something silver in his hand and it felt cool against the dual-bender’s neck. Agni! Karuna kneed the brute in the groin and grabbed his wrist, hoping to gain control of the firearm. The gang member groaned and loosened his grip, but the weapon was still in his possession. They continued to struggle over it and the stench of a cigar grew more intense. Karuna was strong, but her exertion was not a strong as this man’s. The handgun was once again at the side of her head but with the spurt of energy she had, Karuna redirected the barrel upwards and away from her face. Her finger wrapped around the trigger and soon the echoed Bam! Came. The sound startled the criminal and this gave the warrior ample time to strike back. She twisted her arms and smacked him across the face with the butt of the gun. After the lug had fallen over, Karuna slowly rose to her feet to observe the injured and unconscious gang members.

“Babe, we gotta go back to the station,” The brunette called out to Hana while searching the unconscious men for any more weapons or surprises. “Babe?” Grey eyes widened upon looking behind her. Against the brick wall of the alley, her girlfriend leaned awkwardly. It took Karuna several steps forward to fully process what had happened. “Fuck. No. Agni no!” She raced to wards the earth-bender. Hana was still breathing and her eyes were open, but her breaths were shallow. The dual-bender gathered the other into her arms carefully. “N-n-n-o….no….spirits no!” She cried, cradling her girlfriend in shaking arms. Already, crimson red had pooled up to her collarbone and down the white and Hunter Green of her garments. Hana’s hand reached out for Karuna’s with the little amount of strength and energy she still had. “I’m s-so so-sorry! I didn’t mean to!” Her lips trembled and water began to well up in her eyes.

“I know .” Hana’s voice seemed like a faint whisper. Despite the pain she must’ve felt, she smiled at Karuna one last time. When the light left emerald, green eyes, Karuna’s sight was taken from her by her tears.

“No…oh god no! Please no! NO!” Her cries echoed against the brick buildings surrounding them. She yelled and hollered out in agony until her voice was hoarse. Hana was her love, her life and her everything. In a matter of moments, all had been taken from her.

Tahno bears no shame as his eyes briefly meet hers through the glass of the shower, their visions of each other undoubtedly morphed as water from the shower head slides down the smooth window panes. He pauses, his hands tangled in his hair as he works shampoo from the strands, and shakes his head softly. His lips tick upward with laughter, his tongue pressing against the roof of his mouth, before unsticking with a gentle click that's swallowed by the running water and her abrupt reaction.

"Why so shy, sweetheart?" He calls over the stream of water. He had long since stopped questioning the faces that filtered in and out of his apartment, and he was rather positive that he had seen her before, perhaps at the arena.

When Tahno first began pro-bending, he started with a small, not very popular team that has long since disbanded. If one were to ask him of his early days, he'd recall the interesting headlines that took to the papers. He was a bit of a mystery, this odd looking rookie with eyeliner and the strangest bending style to cross into the arena.

Those headlines were generally positive, for Tahno had more talent than the sport (which hadn't caught on as quickly as most investors had hoped) had ever seen. But, if one were to dig, perhaps in the archives of Republic City's library, they'd fine one very particular story on the rookie with the eyeliner—nothing more than a few sentences, and a tiny, blurry image of a body falling from the platform.

Now, he handles an upbringing of his unfortunate slip off of the platform that resulted in a default point for the other team, and a win for the other team, with the grace of a well-seasoned veteran.

It was quite safe to say that some bonds were unbreakable. But then again—it wasn't—because Tahno had once thought that the binding of his element through his veins was an unbreakable bond, and it had been taken from him as easily as one took a toy from a child. It was with the utmost faith that Tahno could depend on his old teammates (it was wrong, calling them that, because they weren't just his teammates. They were Ming and Shaozu, they were his support, and he theirs, and they weren't old teammates—together, the three were just as much a team as they had ever been) to hold the broken pieces of him, the same way he held theirs.

It was a nasty rumor—the one that branded Tahno as a self-absorbed bastard. Self confident, sure. Arrogant, he'd agree. But the captain of a team knew better than anybody that the team fell before anything else. 

"There's strength in numbers," Tahno murmured, more to himself than to the girl in question. Why go through turmoil alone—why rebuild alone—when they didn't need to? He lifted his gaze, meeting that of his curious fan, and smiled at her.

"I’m visiting my cousin…she’s the founder of the Bei Fong metal-bending academy."
