4, 13, 18, 32 for the Star Wars meme
4. Favourite character from original trilogy?
Han Solo. With Lando as a close second. (If Iâd come to Star Wars as an adult, it would probably be Lando, but some part of me is still teen!me, so...)
13. Would you want to be a force user?
Part of me says, oh god yes that would be so convenient. Cat on my lap and I want a snack, just use the Force! Need to get something off a top shelf? Force! Youâd probably never have to worry about fender benders again.
On the other hand, oh no, now you have super powers, you should probably do something more useful with them than making snacks. Iâm not sure I want that kind of responsibility.
(Now, being a force user in the Star Wars universe? Oh no. That is not going to go well. Nope!)
18. How has Star Wars impacted your life?
More ways than I probably could ever know. I was 14 when I became a Star Wars fan, which led to my getting into science fiction in general, and going to conventions, and discovering tabletop roleplaying games, and all that. I have online friends I met due to SWTOR and or writing fanfic. (Actually, all of my Tumblr friends are due to that, indirectly, since I got on Tumblr looking for SWTOR fans, way back in the day.) While itâs not the only fiction I like that has strong themes of friendship and doing whatâs right and sometimes not so typical solutions to problems, itâs definitely one of those stories.
I have fond memories of going to opening day or midnight showings with friends and coworkers. Of talking about Star Wars with friends. Of reading (or yelling about) various books.
For all the occasional frustrations, itâs brought me a lot of happiness, friends, and other things I value. Sure, some of the things I can trace back to Star Wars might have happened anyway. But in this time line, they happened because Star Wars.
32. Who would you cosplay as?
I am far to shy and socially awkward to do cosplay, however much fun it seems to be and however much I enjoy other peopleâs cosplay. Han Solo would be a pretty easy cosplay, though, since he has simple, but distinctive outfits. (And I wouldnât need bodypaint or wigs or lekku or anything.) Though, Iâve got to say, I do wish there were more well known (and not questionably attired) Twiâleks. I like the species design, and it seems like it could be a fun cosplay challenge. But, alas, Iâm not fond enough of the Twiâleks who do get to wear clothes to cosplay any of them. (Or else, they arenât well known enough.) Though, a few years back, I did see someone cosplaying what had to be their own Star Wars character (be it a tabletop game or SWTOR or the like) at a local convention. They had an excellent Twiâlek smuggler/out-of-uniform rebel/something along those lines costume. Looked like theyâd walked right in off a movie set.
4, 14, 18
thanks for asking!Â
4. what was your favourite tv show as a kid?
There wasnât a lot I remember between my Mr. Rogers/Sesame Street days and say...pre-teen tv watching. My folks kept pretty good control of our tv time and it was mostly what we watched together. I recall liking MASH and I watched Westerns on Saturday. hmm. The first thing I remember *begging* to watch was Knight Rider (gosh I did love that car :D)
14 what is your defining personality trait?
ehh....I am probably too comfortable being alone and I prefer it? Iâm not even sure Iâm an introvert at this point, I just get tired of accommodating people.Â
Answered 18, here so how about...
9. what are your favourite shoes like?
I need a new pair but I really love my Bjorn clogs. Iâve had a couple of pair. Theyâre a deep red, with a swirly paisley pattern cut into the leather. Super comfy, give me a couple of inches in height, and mildly stylish in a hippie sort of way :D
"From Russia with Brainwashing" - âAgent Bond?â âHe was - â Bond swallowed again, and then lowered his head, staring at the ground as if it could provide answers. âAlec was - a friend. He - God. I thought he had betrayed me - betrayed England, switched sides and gone over to the Russians in â85. He resurfaced in â95. He wiped out a nuclear satellite monitoring facility and nearly took out the Bank of England before I - I killed him.â
Ooh thank you for picking this!
I think my main issue with the Bond films is that as a writer and a reader of stories, I always find myself looking under the surface for depth that usually isnât written into the original story. In the case of Goldeneye, the movie is written such that Alec Trevelyan is a villain, no shades of grey, no substance - just a man who decided that he wasnât satisfied with his work anymore and betrayed his country and his best friend. The problem, though, is in all the little details that donât. quite. match somehow. The way he keeps insisting that Bond betrayed him somehow when there was no such betrayal during the opening sequence. The way that heâs supposed to have been faking his own death and therefore not actually shot in the head or at most grazed versus the way he visibly lays there unmoving on the floor while stacks of gas canisters come crashing down onto him, speaking to him being already badly injured and probably suffering further head injury during his supposed defection. Add onto that that Trevelyanâs supposed backstory makes no sense given his age versus the date that his parents would supposedly have died, and Iâm left trying to make ends meet like a somewhat frustrated electrician and coming to the realization that Iâm going to need a conduit of some kind in between, such as the idea that Trevelyan didnât defect but was brainwashed into believing that he did and then was set loose on MI6 and England.Â
As to why I set this post-everything, when itâs far too late for Bond to do anything - I suppose I just wanted to see a version of Bond for once who has feelings since the whole thing with Trevelyan betraying him should, by rights, be heartbreaking. He spent nine years mourning the man, blaming himself for his death, only to find he was alive but no longer the man Bond thought he knew. Itâs another case where film makers need to let the characters sit for five minutes and feel things and they donât. Itâs bad writing, frankly, so I came along behind to give the whole thing another layer that it was sorely lacking in canon.
Soft Asks: 23, 25, 30
(soft asks)
23. favorite piece of clothing?
Ok look, I have a bra that I got a few months ago that fits p e r f e c t l y , it just makes me happy to wear. Donât have to worry while Iâve got it on. If you get that you get it, right??Â
25. whatâs the best personal gift someone could give you (playlist, homemade card, etc.)
Oh man. I love most gifts that feel personal regardless because gift giving is not a language I speak fluently. So Iâm touched by just about anything that feels like they took the time to think about me. In particular, I love art that I didnât have to do myself. Writing.Â
30. what reminds you of home (doesnât have to mean house⌠just things that remind you of the feeling of home)?
Unfinished tea. Someone there to help without context. Soft couches. The luxury of lack of awareness.Â
