This is about the difference between Art and Communication. And garbage.
The question of millenials generation –ok, one of them, but this is REALLY important- is if they are going to conceive and judge fiction from a communication point of view or from an artistic one.
What’s the difference? Communication is all about construction of sense, and deliver an specific message as clear as possible. Art is about expressing something that you cannot express in any other social space. Yes, art is the garbage bin of the mind, fighting for being recyclable crap. Art exists as a way of relief. It is a catalogue of amazing techniques to transform those awful thoughts in something beautiful.
The point of art is not even close to teach something or control some kind of behaviour. Au contraire. It’s about taming the darkest feelings and thoughts through an expressive expression expressed by a skilled technique.
Teaching and controling what the population should think don’t belong to Art, belong to State.
If you wash Art to just Communication, you are leaving yourself without the trash bin. Ready to swim in garbage?
