It’s common sense that, at the very least, banning weapons that use high capacity magazines like AR-15s or the Sig Sauer MCX used in the Pulse shooting would decrease the loss of life during mass shootings. I don’t know the exact gun that was used in this particular shooting (I don’t think that info is out there), but one was a rifle.

There are arguments I could make about American culture about guns as a whole (toxic masculinity, guns as a part of a political culture, etc), but really, if guns aren’t outlawed as a whole, mass shootings cannot be wholly prevented. However, there are measures we can take to minimize the loss of life. Britain and Australia’s gun laws have kept mass shootings at bay through their gun restrictions. I live in Massachusetts and strict gun laws, along with low gun ownership rates, have kept gun violence here down to one of the lowest in the nation.

I was actually asking other people for clarification. I know it varies hugely between guns as to what exactly has to be modified.

I was told by a friend of a friend who modifies firearms that by changing certain components, including pins (I’ll admit he was probably being colloquial for my benefit) that he could easily convert semi-automatic weapons to full automatic. I know that it would vary greatly between weapons with manufacturers being pressured to make it more difficult, but I was told that the older the firearm the easier it is to do.
