Can we acknowledge for a second that Degrassi is actually following through on continuity with Maya freaking out about Miles? If that isn't all about Cam, I don't know what is. It's so refreshing.
Oh yes, it’s totally about Cam, and I’m so glad to see Degrassi finally following through with it too! I wasn’t thrilled with a lot of the more immediate aftermath following Cam’s death, but I’m glad that the show hasn’t forgotten!
I definitely think that Maya is still very affected by losing Cam, and I think that is absolutely fueling her stress and worry about Miles right now. She was totally taken by surprise when Cam died. She hadn’t seen any signs, and as far as she knew, the last night they spent together was a great one. She was shocked by what happened with Cam, and I imagine that now she just never wants something like that to happen again. She never wants someone she cares about to go through something like that again, and she never wants to be unaware of what her loved ones are going through ever again.Â
But yeah, there have been little hints and implicit things with Maya’s character for a while now that clued us in to how she’s still quite affected by Cam’s death, but all of this stuff with Miles now is a bit more explicit about it (like her daydream/nightmare about Miles that paralleled what happened with Cam breaking his arm). I’m glad that the show hasn’t forgotten, and I hope that Maya will maybe get someone to talk to (like a professional) and/or find a healthy outlet for her feelings and concerns. She has kept a lot of these feelings, thoughts, and worries to herself ever since Cam died, so I bet she could really use someone to talk to about all of this!
