So if you were in charge of Zig's homelessness storyline, what would you have it focus on? I would love to hear what details you would focus on!
First things first, I'd definitely give him an A plot in at least one or two episodes...and this plot would be strictly from his point of view -- not from Maya's, and not in the context of a love triangle + feud with Miles. Maya, Miles, and maybe some other characters (like his various friends: Grace, Tiny, Damon, etc.) could certainly show up in the storyline, but they'd play secondary roles. It would definitely be Zig's story!
I sort of imagine the episode starting with a cold open with Zig perhaps in the house he was squatting in. He's already been kicked out and he's just going about his new routine in there and trying to stay hidden while getting ready for school. Not much needs to be said - it's just creating mood and conjuring up some questions from the audience.
After that, I'm not sure exactly, but I actually wouldn't have a problem with Maya (or some other friend) discovering Zig's secret, but it would still have to remain from Zig's point of view. Not necessarily right away, but eventually I'd like for Zig to share (with whomever he feels comfortable - maybe Grace or Tiny) why he was kicked out. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure what the reason would be. He seemed to have a pretty good relationship with his mom, but beyond that we don't know much about his family situation. Maybe it was some sort of misunderstanding, maybe he got into trouble... I'm not sure. Or maybe he just ran away and disguised it as being kicked out. I could see that too.
I think I'd have Zig squatting and hiding out for a few episodes because while I'd like for it to be resolved, I also don't always like the idea of important topics/plots being resolved so quickly, so I'd stretch it out for a few episodes. The conclusion, I suppose, would either be Zig trying to reach out to his parent(s) (apologizing for anything he might've done wrong, talking to get to a place of understanding, perhaps his parent(s) would apologize too), or maybe someone at school would notice his situation and try to help.Ā
For some aspects of this whole storyline, I don't even really care about what the particular details would be. It's fun to think of a bunch of different directions it could've gone into, but ultimately I just REALLY wish it would've started off being from Zig's point of view! I'll always think it's weird how they just tucked this whole plot away to the side in order to focus more on a rather bland love triangle (and it's not like this show is exactly in dire need of more love triangles)!
Thanks for the question! If anyone else has any ideas about what changes they'd make for this storyline, please feel free to reply on this post with them! :D
